One of Cueto or Latos is going to have to be made available right? I can't imagine the Reds go for it and risk losing both of them at the end of the year for nothing more than draft picks.

I wonder what the pricetag would be for one year of Latos, he's interesting as a 2nd guy target given the short duration.

If the Cubs acquire Mat Latos, I might have an intense personal crisis because I hate him and his stupid fat [expletive] face so much, but I would love to have his production on the team.

You rarely ever see a sign and trade or players traded sign contracts shortly after in the mlb, can't remember that last time I saw that happen

Didn't Derrek Lee sign an extension shortly after being traded to the Cubs? 10 years ago, I know, but that popped in my head for some reason.

Don't think this needs its own thread and figured this was the best spot for it, any interest in this guy/how does he compare to Maeda for those that follow this stuff better?

SK Wyverns of the Korean Baseball Organization have announced that they will post left-hander Kwang-Hyun Kim this offseason...Kim, 26, posted a 3.42 ERA over 28 starts this season, finishing in the top five in ERA, wins and strikeouts amongst the league’s pitchers. It was a rebound year for Kim, who went through some injury issues from 2011-13 following an impressive start to his KBO career, as he was named the league’s MVP in 2008.

We should probably start an Offseason Trade Rumors/News thread at some point, since this one is mostly pertaining to Cubs related stuff, but figured I'd put this here for now:

A Red Sox insider told Bill Madden of the New York Daily News that the Red Sox coaches "all hate" outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.

"He marches to his own drum," said the unnamed source. The Red Sox acquired Cespedes from the A's in July for Jon Lester and were initially planning to work out a contract extension with the 29-year-old Cuban slugger, but he has not endeared himself to many people in Boston's clubhouse or front office and it now seems likely that he will be traded this winter. Cespedes, a free agent after 2015, signed on with Jay-Z's Roc Nation Sports last week.

What does it take to land Craig Gentry from the As as a back up CFer and pinch runner? Guy is a monster on the basepaths and plays extremely good defense. Also, I'd be interested to see what the Rangers would want for Leonys Martin. He would make one of Alcantara or Baez available for trade.

I was coming here to suggest a Watkins for Francisco Cervelli trade, when I noticed the Coghlan for Murphy trade idea in the first post and McCann mentioned later in the thread.

Seems like a Yankees catcher for a Cubs back end of the roster/rotation guy (with whatever cash or low level prospects need to go whichever way to even things out) deal would fit for both teams.

I don't want Cervelli that much and he has more value to the Yankees than Logan Watkins. I'm intrigued by JR Murphy though if Martin/Montero/other options don't work.

Latos had an experimental surgery on his shoulder. There is a .001% chance the Cubs trade in the division for him.

That said, what would you be willing to give up for an injured ace when healthy?

Baez is probably off the table for most here and the Reds would want more. What would your offer be? Edwards, Alcantara, Vogelbach and $$?

For one year of Latos coming off an injury that caused him to miss half of 2014. Good god no.

I'd think Edwards and Vogelbach would be enough. No money, no Alcantara. ...and I still don't think I'd do it without some kind of awesome extension contract.

Stupid trade idea of the day. Obvious pre-requisite is Martin signing with the Cubs.

Cubs send Castillo to Dodgers, Dodgers send Van Slyke to Minnesota, Twins send Kyle Gibson to Chicago.

Who's least happy with that deal?

Twins, I'm assuming.

I kinda get the feeling Friedman is pushing this gotta trade one of these troublesome OFers so he can get rid of Van Slyke at his peak. Too bad for him there aren't any dumb GMs left that are trying to win
