I didn't think so until recently, but I'm definitely seeing the possibility of a Baez call-up. They would be surrendering a year of control, but if you wait till next May to bring him up and then he struggles for 2 months, you're possibly jeopardizing a playoff run.

Everything is looking like they're really going for it next year, so if they think he can adjust to major league pitching in the same timeframe he's adjusted to other leagues, you're looking at a year of service time vs. a year of contention. I can see it going either way.

What? No it doesn't.

It looks like they might start trying a little and the results might start getting better next year, but nothing indicates they are really going for it.

Wait to hear what Len and JD say at the start of the game. If Len mentions Baez in even the slightest, it might be a tea leaf.

Len has been mentioning Baez a lot in radio interviews and on TV. It almost seems like he's on a promotion tour. And he wouldn't be doing that without some sort of hint or nod from the FO. All I'm saying here is, Baez is not going to be in AAA until next May.

The last thing the front office should want to do is give off some sort of "Baez is our savior" vibe. He's already going to be putting that sort of pressure on himself because of who he is. If anything they'll want to lower expectations for fans.

Which is just another reason he may not come up until late next spring.

But man if he comes up soon... So exciting!

They aren't doing that. They are just giving little cookies to fans (even though Theo said he doesn't do this) by kinda hinting/bringing up his name. That's not saying "Baez is our savior" or like "hint hint, hey guys maybe Baez is coming soon".

Why the hell do you think Len would not talk about Baez if not for a hint or nod from the FO?

Well they certainly aren't doing that.

The open 40 man spot is what raises my eyebrow on Javy. Not to mention we'll likely have additional ones from trades within the next 10 days or so.

Isn't that spot likely available for Fujikawa coming off the 60 Day DL? He's rehabbing in AAA right now.

Please let Javy come up soon. I need a reason to get into these last few games. him getting his douche on would be amazing. Imagine him hitting a homer and costing the Cardinals a playoff spot and then moonwalking around the bases. Oh the tears would be so sweet.

lulz..I couldn't help but look at the meatball comments on the Cubs.com board...It's like Campana and Theriot all over again. These are a few gem comments..

He's a second baseman... he's a winner... he's a defensive juggernaut... you don't take him off the team...

This is a sad day, and is a mistake in my opinion.

One of the worst moves the new front office has made since taking charge

You know it's good news when one board weirdo is rambling cookies and the other is talking about Baez douching.

Haha, of course you picked that sentence out and had a panic attack. Take a nap.

Just my board mandated apologist propaganda.

That's great Jed. But you don't make any real decisions so who cares what you think.

Sure, but who's he speaking to here? Baez or to the fans? In any case doesn't it seem out of character for them?

Nevermind, that was stupid on second thought.

[expletive], forgot about him. You're definitely right.

They have to have one of the weirdest relationships between a President and GM. I really can't envision Theo firing him.
