I'd like to thank Mr Finely for bringing me to Oakland. I look forward to playing for Mr Williams and playing with Reggie and Rollie.

Just had a mini-presser with Shark in Oakland. It's pretty obvious he really wanted out.

Yeah, he tried to be as nice as he could about it, but he couldn't be more pleased to be gone.

It's a good thing for him that his contract is up after next year, since he seemed to be particularly sick of player turnover and uncertainty (along with the obvious lack of winning). Odds are that the A's, as currently constructed, are coming apart after 2015.

Knowing Beane's reputation of trading, I could see him trading Samardzija this offseason to try and save some money and replenish the organization. Jarrod Parker and AJ Griffin should be back next season.

It's a definite possibility, but I'm not sure what can be expected out of Parker. And I think a lot depends on how Gray and Chavez hold up in the second half. Regardless, the current window for the A's is almost certainly going to close (briefly, in all likelihood) after 2015.

At the very least, the A's will look very different in 2016.

Yeah, it really depends on how much of a safety net Beane wants to have for 2016.

joe buck during the red sox game:

i just look at what the cubs are doing, and they're in a position now where, okay, they've got young players again, but at some point don't you need to add some guys that you can build around to go forward? i mean, it becomes ridiculous. if you're a cubs fan, you go "okay, yay. we got more young guys that are coming up into their 20's." good for billy beane, good for the a's, but for the cubs, it's just more of the same.

this is my transcription, but i think i've got it word-for-word.

what a piece of trash

remember when HBO gave that guy a variety hour or something that lasted for 3 episodes? lol

Catching up on Len's twitter feed, looks like even he's getting frustrated with fans' lack of understanding...

Len Kasper @LenKasper · 1h

I REPEAT: stockpiling SS's is a good thing. Sheffield/Cabrera/A-Rod/Yount/Matt Williams/Billy Hamilton all began as SS's. Long list.

Len Kasper @LenKasper · 1h

If the Cubs were stockpiling LF's, then yes, you could be concerned.

@LenKasper · 1h

Cubs got best 3 months of Hammel's career & sold very very high on Samardzija who wasn't gonna sign long-term deal. & the issue is...what?

every time i watch a non-cubs game, i remember how lucky we are to have len.

Yeah, I have EI and watch a lot of games, and 90% of the broadcast teams out there are hot garbage compared to ours. There are a select few great ones, some decent ones and a lot that are horrible.

Vin Scully is one of the greats. But it's nice to have one of the better broadcast teams to listen to, for sure.

I'd like to hear Vin Scully call a Robinson Chirinos HR

Followed by a Bryan LaHair HR.

Al Yellon wrote a piece on Shark as a primer for A's fans over at Athletics Nation, and as you might expect, it's absolute [expletive]. That guy is a joke.

I'm sure A's fans are glad they got a paragraph about how Samardzija is just another guy shopping at the supermarket (can't believe he isn't Jameis Winston and actually buys his food!) and the origin of his nickname.

And he knows as much as A's fans about Hammel despite Hammel pitching 3 months more for the Cubs than the 0 for the A's. Why does he have a blog on SB Nation again?

Why does he have a blog on SB Nation again?

I don't know, but it irks me that he represents a Cubs "authority" to people. There are at least a couple dozen people here who could drunkenly crap out more informative, better written article than that in under an hour.

Then they need to band together and start writing articles for the NSBB front page! All the other Cubs sites are mostly news and rumors. NSBB could be the site for Cubs analysis and intelligent information. Seriously. I know Tim has tried in the past but it kind of dies out, and I know this place is here mostly for this board, but I don't see why a handful of guys from here couldn't put together some articles each week.

This should probably go in the Site Suggestions forum

I think people would, but don't have time to do it on the regular.

Not sure if people would be interested in my writing but I definitely would struggle to string along regular time.

I think there's enough people here where if you got them to commit one article every week or one every two weeks, you'd get enough content to keep people coming back.

Came across this old AFL preview and had a little laugh.

Top Prospects: Kris Bryant, 3b, Cubs; Addison Russell, ss, Athletics; Javier Baez, ss, Cubs; Albert Almora, of, Cubs.

Frankly this is a ridiculous assemblage of talent for Mesa, which should have some “can you top this” moments in batting practice. Baez, Bryant and Cubs outfielder Jorge Soler rank among the minors’ true elite power hitters, and Russell ranks on the short list of the game’s top middle-infield prospects.

A *ton* of other teams' fans talking about how the Cubs have "no pitching" in the minors whose teams have fewer top 100 pitching prospects than the Cubs do.

Between that and fans of other teams thinking the Cubs have to trade some of their SS away, there's some comedy gold to be found on a lot of forums.

Some Yankees fans were going on about how they should be able to get Russell or Baez straight up for Gary Sanchez, "easily".

more details/links to details about the presser would be appreciated. i want to hear everything about shark's newfound freedom!

Definitely took a couple shots at the Cubs.

Judging from that press conference, I underestimated his desire to leave.

I don't question his desire to leave the Cubs and be in a better current situation. I just don't get how a seemingly smart guy does not understand what the Cubs are doing.

Yeah, but if they start putting together a team of Kalish/Coghlan/Ruggiano types and completely whiff on Scherzer or Shields while making no attempt at guys that are ready to go, you'll know the parallel front isn't quite ready to go yet.

My problem is with people saying there's no reason to have Bryant or Baez or whoever break camp with the big club next year.

UM YES THERE IS IT'S CALLED IF THEY WANT TO WIN GAMS YOU [expletive] DOLTS.

I would bring up Bryant, Soler, and Baez and turn them loose on the women RIGHT A [expletive] WAY I HAVE NO DESIRE TO WASTE ANY PART OF ANY MORE SEASONS FOR THE SIMPLE SAKE OF AN EXTRA YEAR OF CONTROL AT THIS POINT. IF THEY ARE GOOD GIVE THEM A BILLION DOLLARS I DONT CARE BECAUSE IT'S NOT MY MONEY YOU [expletive] SLACKJAWS

Don't they get if we had wanted Gary [expletive] Sanchez, we would have just traded them Samardzilla for him?
