jesus, i didn't realize how bad he was doing. he got off to that really bad to a really bad start, but then he heated up a little after that and i just assumed he had leveled off. not even close. .512 ops in the month of june.

lake, olt, baker, and barney don't really belong in the major leagues (unless you're in the al and want to carry barney as a glove who gets literally zero at bats in close games). probably coghlan too. schierholtz and sweeney aren't far from joining them.

hopefully we figure out how to fill out the bottom half of a roster by the time we're good enough for it to matter.

EDIT fixed messed up quotes

I'm kind of curious why Lake has been playing CF so much lately, even when Ruggiano and Sweeney have both been in the lineup.

How bad has Ryan Sweeney been? He has worse numbers than Darwin Barney.

How bad has Darwin Barney been? He has worse numbers than Mike Olt.

Mike Olt has a .224 OBP

To be fair, it looks like .338 when he looks at the scoreboard.

The funny thing is, if we'd figured out how to fill the bottom half of a roster this year, we might just have been good enough for it to matter.

Hypothetical question out of boredom:

The Cubs, in a bold maneuver, call up Alcantara, Bryant, Baez, and Manny. Despite it being too early for Baez, maybe a little too early for Bryant, and Manny being more or less a below average bat at the MLB level at this point in his career... do the Cubs become legit contenders for the 2nd wild card?

Nope. Learning curve to MLB is steep as heck and they are too far back.

No. Even if Manny isn't toast, he'd be a pinch hitter only. If we didn't sit on our hands all offseason, maybe they could have made things mildly amusing in this scenario.

I don't think so. Alcantara would help and Bryant would too after a rough start with a lot of strikeouts. Javy and Manny though would range from 2012 Josh Vitters (or, I guess, Mike Olt now) to replacement level.

If the standings reset at the all-star break like the Midwest league, then probably. But those improvements are those that bring the team up to 'potentially playoff caliber if things break right' not 'infusion that helps to bridge a 10 game/10 team gap'.
