I've heard from a number of sources that Dempster is an extreme con-man, playing the great family guy who relates to the fans but is really an awful person who is a complete dick. I'll spare the details, but I trust the source pretty strongly.

Anyway, this "Cubs not being awful" thing is fun, yes?

I much prefer fun baseball to tragic baseball

i am pretty okay with the fun being due to how tragic it is for the pirates, while we're at it

Sanchez was arguing with the ump and showing him that he was blocking the plate so there was no way Castro was safe. Turns out that's exactly the reason why he's safe.

Dempster retired?

not really, he is taking the year off for health/family reasons.

Dempster was taking a nap and has heard nothing about any retirement.

Wood's thrown a ton of pitches through 4. Hope the pen is good today because they're getting 3 innings minimum.

if that was a correct interpretation of that rule, that rule is horrible

According to the rule, you can't block the plate before you have the baseball.

Pat Hughes just said, "The Cubs have shown more life in the last week than they have in two years."

Can't really argue with that.

Didn't they play close to .500 ball for a really long stretch between the Rizzo call up and the trades in 2012?

From April 25 to July 28 last year, they were 42-41.

Wasn't it signing Gregg and trading Garza?
