Pat Hughes just said, "The Cubs have shown more life in the last week than they have in two years."

Can't really argue with that.

Didn't they play close to .500 ball for a really long stretch between the Rizzo call up and the trades in 2012?

From April 25 to July 28 last year, they were 42-41.

They had a 19-10 stretch in July of 2012

I'm sure there's a reason and I've missed it, but what the hell did Wood do to get stuck behind EJax and Hammel in the rotation?

Because rotation order doesn't matter and they wanted wood to face the Phillies

Wood gets honor of the home opener, the Phillies are a better matchup for a left-handed pitcher, and Wood/Samardzija are the two most likely pitchers to go deep so they wanted to space them out to even out bullpen usage.

If I remember correctly, Castro/Rizzo were hitting during that stretch like they have been the last few games.

I wish there was a way I could tune out the rest of the crowd at sporting events. The guys who think they know what they talk about are the *worst*.
