You do realize if they made no moves the team would have been...a year older than last year's team.

Most teams that finish 16 games under .500 with the oldest roster in baseball don't attempt to get older in the offseason

Well at least one person got the point I was trying to make.

His signing was the moment I considered myself an "educated baseball fan." I remember thinking he was going to shore up our bullpen and be the missing piece, and that only truly educated baseball fans could appreciate the value of a shutdown reliever.

we were so innocent back then

It's funny that you put it that way. After his melt down at Shea in 2004 (I was there) and Sammy's uncerimonoius exit shortly thereafter, I became a hardened, cynical fan, divested of the wide-eyed innocence of my youth. Cubs baseball hasn't been the same for me since.

Well at least they won't be lacking in experience and veteran leadership.

That was a really rough day.

@Ken_Rosenthal David Murphy getting two-year deal, expected to be worth more than $10M, per @Evan_P_Grant.

That's a pretty nice deal for Murphy. Not a ton of need for the Cubs unless they dealt multiple OFs, but I liked Murphy as a stopgap option, especially at that price.

Speaking of which, are you taking some joy out of the Blockbuster closures?

He's just driving past each one clicking scissors like that dude from The Warriors with the bottles.

There are a bunch of caveats, too. If he starts 25 (I think) he gets an additional $1.25m. Of particular interest was the club option clause... A $4m club option applies if he starts 6 or fewer games.

Damn, I would've been fine if we gave him a 1 year deal for $12-15 mil (with benchmarks of course). But yeah he wanted to be on a West Coast team (believe he lives in Vegas) and obviously SD is a great part to help a pitcher regain value. Great signing by the Padres.

Shut up dudes, there is a helicopter flying overhead making child abduction announcements and I ain't got time for this now!

But when things calm down, I definitely want to hijack this entire thread with all of the 5+ year old regurgitated BBB jokes. I do appreciate the love you are all showing me, though.
