Ackley's the Mariner's 2B you want. Franklin doesn't have nearly the pedigree and really doesn't project to be any better than Barney next year.

Doesn't sound like they're intending on moving Ackley though. I've also completely soured on Ackley and genuinely think Franklin is a more valuable player than Ackley at this point.

I agree, if I had to choose. Ackley might have a pedigree, but his performance hasn't been just bad, it's been absolutely pathetic. Franklin's three years younger and would at least provide defense.

Ackley's 2013 and career wOBA is .296. The two current projection systems on Fangraphs project him about .307 next year. Franklin's 2013 and career wOBA is .304. The two current projection systems on Fangraphs project him about .313 next year.

Ackley's UZR at 2B has been +10, +6, and +6 the last 3 years. Franklin's was -10 this past season.

Mentioned Suzuki as possibility for #Twins. Per sources, #Cubs, #Mariners also have shown interest. @FeinsandNYDN first reported #Cubs.

What the hell for?

Because they are going to trade beef Wellington

So he can play on a crappy team for a year, get a 2 year extension, get as many at-bats as possible, and reach 3000 hits/500 SBs...

I think Kurt's plan is a little flawed

They've cracked down on identity theft too, I think he's pretty much screwed.

Damn. If he can get to 3000 hits, he's going to be Ted Williams over the next several years. Sign him today.

I'm admittedly not a fan of Kurt, but I don 't wish him frozen.

According to Sullivan, we signed Jonathan Sanchez to a minor league deal.

Please don't ever let him make the majors. I had to suffer through far too many of his starts with the Royals.

LOL I saw OMC's post about the .627 OPS and I thought it was about Ichiro and not Kurt. My bad. I wasn't that far off really. Ichiro had a .639 OPS last year.

Ichiro had a massive and drastic dropoff from 2010 to 2011 and has never recovered. It's like age caught up to him in a single offseason.

Speaking of crappy players from Asia, we should trade Barney and sign that guy who played for the Mets after doing gay porn during his misbegotten youth.

Would it be possible they would sign Suzucki to sway Tanaka. I would bet that Suzucki was one of Tanaka's favorite baseball players growing up, and for a chance to come over to America and play with him for a season might excite him a little bit. It would provide some comfort level also, and the Cubs would know that they are not giving up players or much cash. He is also a guy who normally does not strike out a lot and will see some pitches and get on base (not last year). Seems like a guy the Cubs FO might think could teach some of the young guys also as he helps sway Tanaka to play in Chicago.

I've never understood this line of thinking. Suzuki isn't even a natural born Japanese player, he's from Hawaii. Who knows if he even speaks the language. Put yourself in Tanaka's shoes. Does one Japanese team having a random guy with American background really factor in to whether or not you'd sign with that team?

I figured he was talking about Ichiro...not that a lot of other things aren't still wrong with that.

Makes more sense at least. Even so, I don't believe it's at all a factor. If having a Japanese speaking teammate is a big factor then Theo I'm available for one hell of a lot cheaper than you can land Ichiro.

One, Kurt Suzuki just signed somewhere. Two, the Yanks still have Ichiro and if him and Tanaka are great friends and Tanaka is going to go wherever he is, do you think they're going to trade him to us?

Besides we already have Wada anchoring our pen. And we can always sign Takahashi for 2 weeks again
