Also the Yankees turned down a Brandon Phillips for Brett Gardner offer.

And we finally made a move!

The Cubs signed former Royals reliever Tommy Hottovy to a minor league contract, a source tells Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish (via Twitter). The 32-year-old left-hander has 17 big league games to his credit. He spent last season with the Blue Jays Double-A and Triple-A affiliates, posting a combined 4.19 ERA with 8.8 K/'9 and 3.6 BB/9.

Yeah, the market is so scarce Billy Beane is spending on Jim Johnson while Andrew Friedman is spending on Heath Bell.

And Jed Hoyer is spending on Wesley Wright

That was a nice signing.

At least make fun of the AAA reliever with the 1.5 whip we picked up today.

EDIT - And I didn't even realize that that move was posted on the top of this page.

Paul Maholm seems like someone they could bring back on a one year deal. Any thoughts?

Didn't he get hurt last year towards the end? Is he even healthy? Or maybe I'm completely making that up.

He did miss a little time last season. I don't think it was anything major. Seems like a good flipable asset to me.

A Cubs source told me that despite the trade for Ruggiano, the FO would still like to add a CF.

They are also going back and forth on whether or not they have a bona fide back up 1B (right-handed hitting) on the roster or not. From a 40-man point of view, Mike Olt and Josh Vitters are currently penciled into that role when the Cubs face a nasty lefty, but I was told Theo is not sold yet on either making the 25-man roster.

I'd like them to add a CF also.

I'm sorta surprised they're looking for a RH partner for Rizzo, honestly. In a lost season, I sorta assumed they'd let him run with the 1B job and try to make adjustments so he doesn't end up a platoon guy.

No idea if this guy is believable or not...

That guy has been around a while. He's shown no application to be able to concoct decent rumors though. He sucks.

Good to know. Thanks.

While I don't like that as much as the Wada signing, in general I'm a fan of rescuing players from Minnesota's bizarre "strikeouts are evil" approach to pitching.

Damn, Ryan Roberts on a minor league deal? Good job, fellas.

Seems like he makes the team if Olt doesn't win the starting job no?

That's what I was thinking too. This is this years "Lillibridge" move, just much, much better. I'll be surprised if he doesn't make the team honestly. Guess it could allow Barney to be dealt too, especially with Valbuena only takin reps at 2B this winter.

Wow. He was really good 2 years ago. He's already 33 though. What positions can he play?

Very true. Stacking infielders here. I can't see Darwin on this team after 2014. If Baez progresses and sniffs the Majors this year, Barney is as good as gone by July.

@CSNMooney Cubs sign OF Ryan Kalish and C John Baker to minor-league deals with invites to spring training.

We are totally winning the minor league FA world series.

That new spring training stadium isn't going to sell itself.

Probably but hopefully Barney isn't locked in at 2B either and hopefully he will be in contention to take the job from him.
