Has there ever been another golfer who has had as many injuries as Tiger Woods?

Certainly. They just weren't as noteworthy.

Yes. Sportscenter seems to think that's what sports is all about, anyway.

Not really because if you go back 20 years or more, every injury Tiger had was basically a career-ending one. It's only because the advancements in the medical field that even allows Tiger to play as long as he has so far. Peter Jacobsen is the only other one I can think of and I'm not sure if you would call him noteworthy. He had a hip and back surgery that I know of.

Fred Couples and his constant back trouble comes to mind. He had a shot at being an all time great if that hadn't greatly hampered him.

If Payne Stewart were a hockey player he would have played through it.

didn't ben hogan fly through a windshield or something and break his pelvis?

edit:

Hogan and his wife, Valerie, survived a head-on collision with a Greyhound bus on a fog-shrouded bridge, early in the morning, east of Van Horn, Texas on February 2, 1949. Hogan threw himself across Valerie in order to protect her, and would have been killed had he not done so, as the steering column punctured the driver's seat.

REAL MAN ALERT

The only other golfer I can think of is David Duval and kudos to whoever mentioned Hogan. I wouldn't count him though because it wasn't "golf-related" injury like Woods/Duval/Jacobsen/Couples/etc, but Hogan is still a badass.

What makes you think Tiger's injuries are golf related? Everything he has is symptomatic of the clap.

I believe it's rumored in hank haneys book that the knee injuries were a result of his navy seal training. I also believe that tiger is (or was) a distance runner and it's not hard to imagine his foot issue was related to the running excessively at his build. The other stuff, like the elbow probably happens to every guy on tour. The back issue is much more common and I it were any other golfer, even Rory, it wouldn't be a big headline.

The point is we don't know if this stuff was caused by golf or by his training (which by all accounts is excessive). And the nagging injuies are pretty common amongst golfers his age. Bubba Watson missed a month with back injuries this year and Brandt Snedeker has missed lots of time Over the past few years with cracked ribs. Phil Mickelson missed a few evens this year with a bad back. These are three of th biggest names in golf and their injuries are barely discussed while tigers are scrutinized.

Every event there are multiple WDs.

That video is rather horrifying, but... He didn't fly 50meters like the one eye witness said, and he walked really far down on the track.

But yeah, Tony Stewart is a total dick and should be at least suspended for a very significant amount of time. If the kid does die, how long of a jail sentence will he get? Vehicular manslaughter, right?

Posted

regardless of whether he dies or not, you can't just run someone over. i don't see how he could avoid jail when he obviously hit the guy on purpose with his car.

that being said, he will have rich lawyers who will probably convince some jury that it was an accident.

Sports Center showed the video, knowing full well the other racer died.

Tony Stewart is kind of treated like Dale Earnhardt Sr in racing. Drives dangerously, but somehow with them people say "that's just winning". Others who drive much cleaner are often thought of as dirty drivers.

stewart is driving in a nascar race today? Christ.
just reading through some comments on internet stories about this, it is amazing the excuse making people are making for this guy. I think even if he is completely innocent(which is a real looooong stretch after watching the video), it is hard to imagine him racing today.

Stewart's going to issue a statement today at 1:00 before the race in Watkins Glen. NASCAR and Stewart's spokesperson have already made comments framing it as a "tragic accident". I read one article that said police were investigating but that the investigation was not criminal in nature and that they were not planning on pressing any charges at this time.

Pretty crazy. I doubt he was trying to run him over, but it certainly seems like he intentionally throttled his engine to swerve towards him. Maybe just an aggressive gesture and he thought Ward would move or he accidentally got closer than he intended or something. But either way...if that's the case then his carelessness killed a man and he shouldn't be able to just walk away from that.

yeah, people are saying you should never jump out of your car on an active racetrack - which is true - but i've seen plenty of sportscenter videos of angry rednecks barging out of their cars and confronting other drivers during nascar races. sometimes there were fistfights or sometimes people showed up to drag the angry guy away. what i've never seen is one driver flooring it and hitting the other guy with his car.
