Oscar RT @TracyFay2012 Javier Baez or Oscar Tavares? Better offensive prospect?

Who the [expletive] is Oscar Tavares? lol

Not sure if you're serious or if you're just making a joke about the misspelled name.

Spelling...

Didn't He destroy his ankle or something this year?

Both Rob Zastryzny & Tyler Skulina have been placed on the 7-day DL.

so what is this about? not too thrilled about two of the top four picks being placed on the DL.

What's a guy like Dunston got to do to move up into top 20 lists? If you had to rank our top 5 or so OF prospects based on ceiling, how would it look (assuming guys like Bryant stay INF)?

As far as ceiling goes -- for me:

1) Soler

2) Almora

3) Dunston Jr.

4) Ha

5) Szczur

6) BJax

Just ceiling? Jackson is just too high.

1. Soler

2. Eloy Jimenez

3. Almora

4. Hannemann

5. Dunston Jr

6. Ha

7. Szczur

You could make a case that Kevin Encarnacion and Jeffrey Baez have higher ceilings.

Would Pierce be a AFL candidate? With missing out on some innings with the rain in Daytona.

He could, but I don't think we need to worry too much about innings yet. He's still had plenty to the point where he can work his way up to MLB regular without seeing big jumps.

Yeah, I doubt he goes. He still had a jump in innings this year, going from college to the pros. Most teams don't like sending their best pitching prospects to the AFL unless they missed a lot of innings (we're talking about the amount of innings guys like Paniagua and Vizcaino missed, not a few starts from rain outs).

I think the top four guys on that list have all-star potential. I think the bottom three guys end up being very similar, though Dunston has more time left to develop enough power to become useful.

I still think that Szczur has a higher ceiling than Ha. Not that it is likely to matter at all.

@ProfessorParks: An early draft of the BP 101 has three #Cubs prospects in the mix for top ten consideration. That's #rig.

i'd have a hard time putting almora in the top 10. just off the top of my head, i'd have buxton, sano, taveras, t. walker, bogaerts (does he count any more?), correa, syndergaard, archie bradley, bryant and baez ahead of him. probably lindor, taillon, g. polanco, a. russell as well.

i'd trade him for Jonathan Gray and maybe Stephenson/Zimmer

Definitely Stephenson.

One thing that was pointed out to me when taking a 2nd look at the top 5 farm systems from Baseball America, is that 3 of them were largely built under Jason McLeod. In fact, since 2007 you can build a pretty solid team based on McLeod's draft picks and signings alone, without considering prospects they've traded for. Here's just a quick look at a roster full of MLB players and top prospects built under McLeod over the last 7 years.

LF - Jacoby Ellsbury, Jorge Soler, Bryce Brentz

CF- Albert Almora, Jackie Bradley, Rey Fuentes

RF- Kris Bryant, Josh Reddick, Rymer Liriano

3B- Jed Gyorko, Will Middlebrooks, Gavin Cecchini

SS- Xander Bogaerts, Jace Peterson, Deven Marreo

2B - Dustin Pedroia, Corey Spangenberg

1B- Anthony Rizzo

C- Austin Hedges, Blake Swihart

It's annoying me that people keep referring to that quick and dirty thing BA did as their actually BA ranking.

And if that's their real farm ranking (which I'm pretty sure it's not), that's awful.

It's not. It was based off their league top 20 lists and intentionally skewed towards prospects closer to the big leagues. They've tweeted multiple times that it isn't their actual ranking of farm systems.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Just added the disclaimer in case my assumptions were wrong.

Will do. RT @smokiesbaseball Be sure to check back tomorrow for a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!

It's probably some stupid Kris Bryant bobblehead day or something. What the hell big announcement could they have?

Yeah it's going to be nothing important other than like a new PA announcer or broadcast guy. Maybe a new stadium/renovations? No idea what their situation is with that.

The Cubs wouldn't let them be the first to report any prospect/Cubs related news of importance.
