Same. And if Hoffman is hurt, 4 is Grant Holmes for me, unless Beede really turns things around.

I really don't want the Cubs to draft a high school pitcher who is not like a Kerry Wood or Josh Beckett with their first pick. He's just so far away from helping.

-----why have more than 4?

Because Hoffman is taking two weeks off due to arm soreness.

Is Kolek not like a Kerry Wood or a Josh Beckett (at least at draft time)?

The gulf between 4 and 5 is big enough that one of the 4 announcing retirement next week would drop them even with 5.

No. They had good/great breaking balls pre-draft, Kolek doesnt. Beckett also had better fastball command than either Wood or Kolek.

That may not all be a bad thing in the long run for Kolek. All those big-time curves/slurves by Wood might have made him a better ace-prospect, but it may also have made him more likely to need surgery. Kolek with mostly fastballs and a very controlled workload might be a much better health risk than Wood was.

Kolek has the fastball (actually, it's better than Wood's or Beckett's at the same age) but his secondary stuff isn't as good as those two. That makes him much rawer and more of a project than Wood or Beckett.

Personally, I think people are really sleeping on Holmes. I like him a lot.

I like him a lot and am not sure why a guy like Jim Callis doesn't even have him in his top 10. Sure, his stuff doesn't project to improve but he has a good enough FB, better secondaries than Kolek and far better control.

Jerry (Joliet)

If Aiken, Kolek, and Rodon are off the board, who would you take at number 4?

Today, Erick Fedde and Nick Gordon would probably be my next two names. That's with Hoffman (and Finnegan) on the shelf, though.

I do like Fedde a lot.

I don't know anything about Fedde or Gordon can you give me a quick summary of what you know about them?
