Probably one of the few players on the roster that didn't need any more question marks. Hopefully it forces the Bears to spend in FA on the position. I'd love one guard and one tackle from FA alone.

Will Beatty just re-signed with the Giants. Another option gone off the FA market.

Expletive!!

Brandon Albert or bust, I guess.

Any interest in Vollmer?

The failure of Bears drafting the past 5 years has really compounded our issues and I think this draft class has to be good for us to save the ship. We can expect to lose Tillman and Peppers in the next 2-3 seasons with no clear backups or prospects on the roster.

I'm interested in Vollmer, but he's coming off surgery(knee, I think), so Albert is my top choice. As far as Webb goes, hez.s still on his rookie contract, isn't he? Basically making the league minimum. I don't want to see him cut, because he likely is good enough to start SOMEWHERE for us, even if we add 2 linemen over the offseason and he's cheap, which we need.

he's not a guard and he won't start at anything but tackle. he's too big and his center of gravity is too high.

Webb is teflon, when you're the Bears you'll do anything for a warm body to play tackle.

They were dropped for drug possession but he was charged with impersonating an offensive lineman.

Off of twitter, Bengals are franchising Johnson, Bills are franchising Byrd. Andre Smith appears to be hitting the market, Saints want to keep Bushrod, LaCanfora says Melton definitely gets franchised. Some speculation from Pompei of cutting Kellen Davis......wonder how much more expensive Smith would be over Albert?

Something to keep in mind: Andre Smith has played RT exclusively in the NFL, unlike Albert. That said, Smith would still be a far better LT than Webb.

it's a good move.

It's the right move if they couldn't re-sign him.

Gotta create some cap room now. Doesn't sound like the Melton camp is in the same ballpark as Emery currently on a longterm deal. Asking Peppers to restructure is iffy, Tillman getting extended seems like a good bet. Maybe Hester, Kellen Davis, Matt Spaeth get cut?

Why is asking Peppers to restructure iffy? I don't understand the logic, but I've seen it several places. He'll still get his money. He'll get most of it upfront instead of taking it this year and getting cut next year.

I think you'll see Davis, Hester and Spaeth all get cut. Hester may be disguised as him being asked to take a pay cut, which he will decline, and then get cut. Tillman will get extended (restructured) and help out. Tim Jennings may get the same. Actually, Jennings may get done first so he doesn't have Tillman as the measuring stick for his contract extension. Earl Bennett and Robbie Gould would be good ways to save a couple million each.

Brandon Marshall is a sleeper to get restructured, but that one may be saved until this time next season when the team dangles the reason being re-signing Jay Cutler as the motivation for him.

With Melton back in the fold, the Bears have 9 of the 11 defensive starters back (counting Wootton who started the last 7 games at DE). And it sounds like Urlacher will be back, so that would mean on the only starter on D that needs to be replaced is the position that comes off the field about 1/2 the snaps anyway.

Offensively, while technically 9 of the 11 who started most of the games are back.......4 of the 9 could stand to be upgraded (LT, RT, C, TE).

I thought I read somewhere it wasn't likely he'd be apt to do it again. May have just been speculation though.

Has he restructured as a Bear? If so, I stand corrected. Didn't think he did.

Yeah, he did in 2011.
