Saints do not plan to use their franchise tag on starting left tackle Jermon Bushrod. He will be an unrestricted free agent.

Bears do have the former Saints OC now...

Kromer was the O-Line coach and served as interim HC at the beginning of the season, he was never the OC (although the point still stands).

Gah, yeah...I knew that too. Brain cramp.

Teams can interview up to 60 players for up to 15 minutes each at the combine. If anyone finds anything, can they post it in here?

Only ones I know for sure are Manti Te'o and DJ Fluker. And Lane Johnson said he has either talked to or been interviewed by every team so far.

All I know is just those 3 with the Bears so far (walterfootball has Lane Johnson having an interview with the Bears although he doesn't mention Te'o or Fluker- http://walterfootball.com/draft2013meetingsteams.php).

So, is adding a LT thru FA or the 1st round enough for us to have a decent O-Line? Is Carimi or Webb solid enough at RT, with the other moving inside, enough upgrading? Or do we also need to draft or sign a starting caliber guard as well? We don't have a TON of money to spend and we need at least a MLB and maybe a TE and a deep threat as well. Not counting Melton, of course. I guess I hope we get Melton locked in longterm and restructure Peppers and Tillman, to give us some cash to address these things. I think I'm in favor of keeping Urlacher, only due to the other holes, if he comes back rather cheaply.

I think u gotta get both an OT and OG. Ideally that would be a LT, but I wouldnt be surprised to see the Bears go after Fluker in the draft at RT, move Carimi to RG, keep Webb at LT and sign a LG. That would be an affordable way to get better up front. Of course, getting a LT and drafting OG would make for a better OL but the price tag is key.

Could we trade our 5th Rnd and Hester for a 3rd?

Not a chance. He's shown he's not a WR. He hasn't shown he's still a true game-changing returner. Teams will wait to see when/if he gets cut, especially since his contract isn't super cheap.

DJ Fluker might actually be BPA when we pick so that'd be pretty ideal. And I think people need to stop trying to think of ways to get us extra picks. No players we can part with will get us significant picks and the likelyhood of the top players at 20 also filling a position of moderate need are pretty good where the idea of trading down in the name of depth will probably be silly.

No, they need interior linemen too. Even if an LT pushes a guy like Carimi or Webb to guard, you still need one more interior linemen (maybe a guy like Frederick who can play C or G).

On a completely different note, I didn't see much of Gavin Escobar in the regular season but he looked pretty impressive.

The Bears need at least two OL and it really doesn't matter where.

I'd say one has to be a tackle.

One definitely has to be a tackle. I'm OK with Webb because he was almost average last year. I'm OK with Carimi because he's a talented player. But I'm not OK with both or 1 of them and Jonathan Scott (who looks like he'll be back at least in a reserve role).

FWIW, Fluker and Carimi at RT and RG respectively would be the best run blocking right side of the OL in the league.

Edit: better add I'm not "OK" with mediocre players at all on the field....but I'm being realistic. The Bears need drastic improvements to even be able to get away with starting any multiple combination of Webb, Carimi, Garza, Louis.

Yeah, I like Escobar. He's deadly down the seam. Any of the 3 Es at TE may be a toss up. Eifert's probably a 1st rounder after today's run. Ertz will require a high 2nd. Escobar though should be there late 2nd, mid-3rd and to me is a more valuable pick.

I'm also intrigued by Nick Kasa from Colorado. Probably a 4th round pick, only 1 year at TE (from DE) but can really run (4.71 today) and blocks with some of that DE intensity. I do hate that he's so raw and the Bears need someone that can play right away.

So with lotulei falling and alex smith going to the chiefs, chances that they take Joeckel and let Albert walk?

Rotoworld seems to think so. They've got us signing Albert at 5/37, Wes Welker at 3/27, and franchising Melton. If that's a possibility, sign me the hell up.

I don't want Welker. We'd be better off getting a slot guy who can stretch the field to go with Brandon and Alshon.

Who cares about stretching the field when u have two of the most productive Wrs of the last 5 years.

Yeah, thats where I'm at. I'm all for it. That said, I'm not positive we need more than a 4th WR. I really like Alshon going forward and Bennett is solid enough as a 3rd guy, in my mind. But adding Welker would give Jay an absolute elite set of WR. I could see the offense(especially if we add Albert and a OG in top 2 rounds) becoming top 5 in the league.

I also don't think Welker has much left.

Honestly, I'd rather that 27Mil go elsewhere. Hell, sign a guard too for that money (though Albert, franchising Melton and 9Mil annually on another player is not possible).

I've heard a couple whispers that if Jermichael Finley gets cut, the Bears would be very interested. Also some around the Bears think that Melton will be at least allowed to test free agency.

Someone like Welker is entirely a question of distributing assets.

We'll get way more getting a WR to provide half the production at a fraction if the cost and putting that money elsewhere.

Eddie Royal looked great with Marshall opposite and Cutler throwing the ball. With Alshon's potential added, we don't need to aim too high in WR to get a high marginal value.
