At least he has a reason to be miserable lately with PFT shutting down.

What didn't he like? Hub is still holding a grudge against the Bears for losing his radio color job I think. He has very little positive things to ever say.

Says he's having a lot of problems with his hands.

Hub hates the Bears draft value in the first round the last 2 drafts. I cant complain about that opinion, since I thought Shea and Long were horrible picks at the Bears slot.

To think we still might not have a first round pick as a full time starter at one position and haven't since 2004 (Tommy Harris) is nauseating.

Meanwhile, other reports I've read indicate Long has impressed.

Physically...but all I've seen have said he needs a lot of work on technique.

Yeah, I haven't read much about his actual play, just that he's really strong.

Hub was saying that Long didn't know what to do with his hands, which is a little odd cuz I thought that was part of what he was working on with Glazer and the MMA stuff.

MMA = offensive line play?

Smart assery aside, I'm not sure why you'd expect a raw player to have better technique as an NFL OL as a result of MMA training with Jay Glazer.

Yeah, that's a great way to have Jay Glazer speak glowingly of you during your career but I'm not sure what value there is to his play.

Really? You guys don't see any way that learning to use balance and leverage by getting familiarized with some MMA techniques could help you control a guy as an offensive lineman? Okay.....

It's kind of like a running back or wide receiver taking ballet classes to work on balance. It makes perfect sense. I'm not saying it's the be all end all, but I can certainly see why a guy would do it and how it would be helpful.

I imagine it can be potentially helpful, but a raw player like Long who hasn't played much offensive line and needs a crap ton of coaching in that department isn't going to gain nearly as much playing grab ass with Jay Glazer and those meatheads than he is by actually practicing the sport of football. Offensive line is about technique. RB and WR is about exploiting your physical gifts. Apples and oranges.

Good post. Glazer is not a NFL coach

Yeah ok, I was thinking about it wrong. The MMA stuff is actually probably more helpful for a defensive guy trying to blow past an offensive lineman than the other way around. There probably wasn't a lot of blocking when training with Glazer.

There's probably something to be gained for an offensive lineman. But in Long's case, he needs to learn how to be an offensive lineman. And the only reason he was doing that nonsense was because rules prevented him from actually practicing with the team. I would assume the guy is behind, given his raw status and lack of OTA time.

Hub may be a curmudgeonly old coot, but it probably isn't a stretch to say Long is having issues with his hand placement and other technique. The other guys have spoken positively, but only in a "he's really strong" sort of way.

Also, Hub only wishes it was PFT that folded, he was PFW.

Well, the reports out of Bourbonais indicate that Shea is playing real fast.

DJ Williams carted off. No other details. Bostic filling in, and apparently looking very good.

Jonathan Scott has ice taped to his right knee, and so Cory Brandon is playing LT, along with Eben Britton.

Jamal Anderson has ice on his knee.

I mean, I think DJ Williams is a nice piece, but I won't hate it if Bostic gets a chance right away. Though best case is DJ is okay and Bostic gets a chance to beat out James Anderson.

Yeah thAt's what I've been predicting would happen. Bostic in the middle. DJ at SLB.
