Yeah the veterans don't have time to play games with the coach, they just saw Urlacher retire ringless, they don't want that to be them... look at Tilman's comments he wants to win.

I can agree with all of that except for #3. I think the comments by Tillman yesterday go a long way toward showing that this group of players is certainly willing to play hard for Trestman. Being that he's one of the team leaders on defense, while he may have been miffed by Lovie being canned, he seems to be on board with the change right now and has at least Tillman in his camp. Not to say it can't/won't happen, but I'd be mildly surprised if it did after hearing what Tillman had to say about the situation.

My feeling on that is they were always going to give him the benefit of the doubt at the outset. They really had no choice. The question comes when there are struggles, how will they react. Lovie seemingly got his veterans on defense to go out and win a game or two on their own most years with the occasional halftime diatribe. I think that was partially related to the fact that those defensive players were his guys, and partly about his demeanor. Trestman isn't going to be able to fallback on that. He is going to need to win games with his offense and he will have to do it early. If they start out 4-2 a lot of this probably subsides. But if there are early struggles, it is going to be hard for them to prevent a death spiral in my opinion. The defense carried this franchise during Lovie's era. But I don't see that continuing with the leadership changes that have occurred, and lack of young studs moving up. The onus has shifted to the offense, Trestman's offense. If it lays a couple eggs, there will be problems.

Also, words are wind.

Agree with everything you are saying, and something I didn't take into account. A good start is imperative, probably moreso for the defense because there isn't much room for growth there. They aren't going to all of a sudden get better on defense if they start out rough. But they are going to have to win games til the offense gets going.

Zach Zaidman ‏@ZachZaidman 15m

Brian Urlacher tells http://NFL.com he's got a "ton of respect" for McCaskey family, but "I don't like" two people in organization.

Michael and Emery?

Emery was the one who was most vocal about theoretically bringing him back but essentially letting him know he should retire. And everybody hates Michael.

Actually, he probably hates Ted. Urlacher respects football people and hates non-blonde celebrity civilians. He's got to hate the pencil pushing team president.

It's got to be whoever he blames for Lovie's dismissal. Dammit, now I really want to know.

Titans running back Chris Johnson and Bears return man Devin Hester are two of the fastest players in the NFL, but they’ve agreed to a race against an opponent who’s guaranteed to blow them away.

Johnson and Hester have raced a cheetah on a show appropriately named Man vs. Cheetah, set to air in November on the cable channel Nat Geo Wild.

Bears 11th:

Chicago Bears (10-6)

No, the Bears did not qualify for the playoffs last season, but new coach Marc Trestman should kickstart a slightly stagnant offense. Whether or not he can maintain the traditionally strong Bears defense, minus Brian Urlacher, remains to be seen. An upgraded offensive line could be just the ticket to giving Green Bay a run in the NFC North.

@BradBiggs #Bears 1st rd pick Kyle Long arrives at training camp, says his goal is to work hard, keep his mouth shut and try to earn some playing time

@BradBiggs Presumably, this means Kyle Long won't have a spin-off on J-Webb Nation T-shirts.

I can't decide if Trestman or Emery is the bigger weirdo.

They're both weird but Trestman takes this easily.

Emery sometimes actually says things. The Lovie firing press conference is a perfect example.

Who started things off? Ted?

I was in my car and heard someone telling me that the Bears are trying to win a championship.

Great to know.

Emery wanted to reiterate the organization's goals.

It's all Emery and Trestman.

I seriously feel like I have no idea what Marc Trestman is talking about. Like ever.

It makes me miss Lovie's brevity.
