Now with one of the oldest rosters in the league — it will be interesting to see where the Bears rank after Labor Day weekend when final cuts have been made — Trestman is charged with reloading, not rebuilding. That's a tall task considering the team is coming off a rare 10-6 season that did not result in a playoff appearance.

Wouldn't that make his job easier?

He's coming into one of the best situations that any team with a just fired HC could be in.

While I think I understand the point he was trying to make, that was a very poor way of trying to make it. You're right, the fact that they are good should make his task of reloading easier, than if they were 6-10.

The tall task is that Trestman isn't going to get a 2 year grace period of turning around a bad team. 7-9 in his first year would be a success for most new coaches, but for Trestman it will be a setback from what his predecessor was able to accomplish. If he doesn't make the playoffs then it will be just like most Lovie seasons. He has to come in and win right away. Which I think was the point Biggs was going for with that odd phrasing.

I think the point is that the standard is set pretty high already. An 8-8 or 9-7 season would be considered a great first season for most first time head coaches, but wouldn't be for Trestman.

I was annoyed that I couldn't read that link this morning. Stupid Tribune and their 5 article limit.

The pay wall is pretty easy to get around. Even if you can't get there off the web site directly or off of twitter, you can usually get to the article by way of Google.

FYI if you have ad blocker installed, you can apparently get around the Paywall fairly easily. Someone just posted this on RealGM yesterday:

Edit: To make things easy, just add this link (with the *'s) to your adblock filter:

Good deal. Can't do an adblocker at work unfortunately, but it does look like there's a number of workarounds.

TSN on the start for the Montreal Alouettes since Trestman left...

Yes, just 2 games out of 18, but very un-Calvillo like. Dead last in passing yards among the 8 starting quarterbacks, that is stunning. The QB rating is second worst in the CFL. Sacked 11 times over 2 games. It's his worst start of the first 2 games since 2007

Of course, Calvillo is 40, and playing under Dan Hawkins now.

Jaws put Cutler at #14 in his QB rankings.

Here's the list so far...

32) Flynn

31) Locker

30) Kolb

29) Henne

28) Sanchez

27) Ponder

26) Weeden

25) Vick

24) Tannehill

23) Palmer

22) Bradford

21) Freeman

20) Smith

19) Dalton

18) Newton

17) Rivers

16) Stafford

15) Romo

14) Cutler

So he's behind some combination of Rodgers, Brady, P. Manning, Brees, Roethlisberger, Ryan, Flacco, E. Manning, Wilson, RG3, Luck, Schaub, and Kaepernick.

Speaking of Kaepernick, he's my number one nominee for "Player I'll be sick of hearing about the fastest: Non-Hernandez division".

Meh, I guess that's favorable. However I have a hard time putting him behind the 4 rookies last year (Wilson, RG3, Luck, Kaepernick) and Schaub.

i really don't believe in Kaepernick, yet. what happens when teams just start containing him and forcing him to throw accurately from the pocket? He was awesome last season, though.

apparently, jay emailed this to waddle and silvy. LOL

Aaron Hernandez’s tutorial on how to get away with murder

1) make sure you are seen with the victim throughout the night of the crime

2) kill him really close to your home

3) make sure not to hide the body too well

4) make sure you are seen arriving home at an odd hour soon after the murder

5) make sure to leave traces of physical evidence, a gun casing and some bubble gum will do

6) when you damage evidence make sure that some data can still be recovered.

7) make sure you keep illegal firearms in your home when a search warrant is immanent

They actually read it on air...which now makes me feel better about the incorrect spelling of imminent.

But that totally sounds like stuff Jay would say.

About 5-10% of my excitement for the return of football is the return of the Jay Cutler Show

Ha, yes. What are the chances that after his playing career he get a radio or tv job? I really want that to happen.

jay cutler went to vanderbilt, he can spell "imminent"

Probably. But it's not because he went to Vanderbilt. Give me a break.

I've seen Northwestern students whose presence there isn't influenced by their amazing athletic ability make worse mistakes.
