#Bears CB Kelvin Hayden tore left hamstring and will miss entire 2013 season. Needs surgery.

Hopefully Frey is ready to contribute.

It sure sounds like he is, thankfully.

Need McManis to be ready also, along with Bowman. Really makes me wish they drafted a CB instead of a 2nd LB.

Makes it worse since it looks like the second LB won't get any playing time this year.

We should have taken Trufant in the first round

I wouldn't have complained about Trufant. Funny now though, the OL is kinda dependent on Kyle Long to start. Granted, James Brown is there, but he'd be the sure starter without Long and Carimi around. Depth would take a hit.

anyone we would have picked in the first would have been under pressure to start.

Not Trufant or Sharrif Floyd.....the best 2 players on the board.

no, given Emery's first draft and the legacy of Angelo, picking depth in the first round would have been idiotic. Besides, the line was what we needed to make better.

Any word on how long the starters will play Friday night? I have to wonder if they'll get a series or two more than usual with the new offense and all.

Cutler in particular won't play long. Bushrod is sketchy to play, and they don't want to put Cutler out there to get hammered.

David Haugh with a misguided column saying it is a mistake to compare McClellin to Watt, and unfair to expect him to be much more than a competent starter this season. What the hell is so unfair to expect your first round pass rusher to be really good in his second year? These guys don't get 4-5 years to establish themselves. He's either going to make an impact now or he probably never will. He's a defensive end, not a QB.

BOURBONNAIS — When Bears defensive end Shea McClellin made the play of training camp the other day by leaping to intercept a screen pass, exaggeration that often accompanies August football brought several comparisons to another No. 99.

But, sorry, folks, J.J. Watt of the Texans, this isn't.

Memo to Chicago: Stop any silly notion before it starts. Such expectations aren't fair to McClellin or apt. The Bears don't need McClellin to be like the NFL's king of the batted pass who made a giant leap in his second season. They need McClellin to become a dependable NFL starter first before somebody compares him to John Thierry next. Comparing McClellin to Watt? What?!

yeah, I wasn't arguing that though.

Yeah, Shea needs to be pretty good. And be pretty good, right now. At some point the Bears are going to have to get some top tier talent to pan out. Can't rely on a team getting sick of a franchise QB or a top 5 WR in the league, signing FAs, and getting late round position converts to find the best players on the team.

They also need to make a commitment to actually trying to develop their picks by putting them on the field. Yeah, it's a risk, but they essentially already took the risk when they drafted him.

Now out of football, former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Mike Tice joked about experiencing what he called "the excitement of my life right now" on Thursday, when he hit the Pick 6 at Del Mar Surfside Race Place in Southern California, winning $100,796.20.

The Pick 6? Isn't that from his playbook. *rimshot
