Emery has mentioned needing a field stretcher this offseason. Doesn't sound like he thinks Hester is that guy. And if they get 1 that makes Hester the #5 WR. With Weems around, that makes Hester expendable as a returner. There's no way Hester is on this team next year. If they can trade him great...if not he gets cut. FWIW, Cutler has said he thinks Hester can excel in a new offense.

Not much, since someone has been saying that for years now.

Yeah. Nobody's gonna believe any Hester hype until he shows it on the field at this point.

I just don't understand how he can complain about his role in an offense that he doesn't even know yet. I have a feeling we keep him.

I doubt he'll get traded but I imagine the Bears will cut him.

Think Toub will want him and/or have enough pull to get Andy Reid to go after him?

I was thinking the Chiefs already had a really solid returner, but must have been thinking of another team. I'd love for him to go to KC, especially if they were willing to part with a 3-4rnd pick!

I had thought so too. But when I went and looked at 2012 stats, I saw I was mistaken. I doubt we'd get a 3rd, for a returner, as I doubt Reid would want him on offense. He lessened his trade value by saying he wasn't mentally engaged on many offensive plays. That said, I'd take just about anything, over a flat out release. Even a 2014 pick.

Apparently Hester might seek a trade. Wants to play 2 or 3 more years but is unhappy with his role in the offense? Wonder if him and Cutler aren't making nice?

Yep. It's more about Hester and Cutler not being buds.

Sure, head coach Marc Trestman brings a new offensive philosophy to town, but Hester doesn’t see himself fitting in. Why? The answer is simple: Hester and quarterback Jay Cutler aren’t on the same page.

Former Bears receivers coach Darryl Drake explained it best last week.

"They need to sit down and get to know each other better, which I don’t know if that will ever happen," Drake said. "I think it’s both of them just being able to understand each other.

"Jay is a tough, tough-minded guy. He looks at things a lot differently. Devin is more of a compassionate-type of guy. They’re total opposites. At times, that probably made things a little bit tougher. But could they co-exist? Sure, if they both work at it. But it takes both of them to do it."

When Hester was asked if he needed to sit down with Cutler to iron out their differences, there was silence for a couple of minutes.

"If I was to be here, then yes," Hester said. "I think so."

Cutler’s frustration mounted during a Thursday night loss at San Francisco that season, when he threw five interceptions and voiced his displeasure with Hester on the sideline.

Cutler doesn’t have the reputation of being a compassionate teammate, and Hester is a player who needs to be coddled at times. In all fairness to Cutler, Hester’s admission that his heart wasn’t totally into it this past season wouldn’t thrill any quarterback.

Hester needing to be coddled means that when he screws up you can't get mad at him or else he might sulk and lose focus, and screw up.

I wonder if they might get him to take a paycut and just be a returner?

I'd be ok with that. As much as he's ticked me off as a WR, I still love what he has done as a returner. Though, the new kickoff rules limit his abilities a little.

Would the players union allow him to do that?

NFL players renegotiate their contracts all the time.

But he wasn't even good on KR this year.

I'm ready to move on from Hester. Maybe we can get a late rounder? 6th,7th?

Even if Hester is just a returner:

A) He's not that great at it any more

B) He's taking a roster spot from someone (most likely a WR) that could actually contribute to the offense.

Weems can return. And the WR you bring in to take his roster spot will likely have return ability as the Bears have stated they want a deep threat type.

Why would anyone want Hester as the returner? I mean, he HAS mastered the art of dancing around, losing 10 yards and getting tackled......

Hester is no longer a good returner but last season, the Bears' ST didn't block anywhere near as well as they had in year's past.

I was incredibly disappointed in Weems. Is he a moron? He doesn't seem to be very "aware" of special teams situations, especially for a special teams specialist.

I think Hester still has potential as a returner. From the sounds of it, he's let this offense stuff really get in his head. If you can get him to take a paycut, and get him solely concentrating on KR's, I think it's worth it to try another year of him as a returner.

He's on the wrong side of 30 now. Kick returners are so easy to find. He'd have to take a very substantial pay cut and I'm sure he's not willing to take one.

4.2% ticket price increase on average.

The team has announced that prices are up by an average of 4.2 percent. For 90 percent of the seats, increases range from $3 to $10 per ticket. (American not Canadian. Eh.)

Only some United Club seats will remain flat, but those range from $265 to $540 per game.

Jay proposes by texting, and he sends the engagement ring in the mail.

Seriously, lol.

And she says yes.

Posted

Weren't they engaged, broke up, found out she was pregnant and then re-engaged?

If so that appears a little more reasonable.

I love it though. People are never going to like him anyways (non Bears fans) so might as well embrace it with stories like this.
