We should point out we hired the offensive coordinator of the saboteur oakland raiders.

That seems like a statement rooted in a lot of fact.

So Marc Trestman's ex-boss is accused of sabotaging a Super Bowl game plan he helped craft for Raiders and Bears' new coach has no comment?

Todd Starowitz ‏@ToddStarowitz

@DavidHaugh Does he not understand his silence implicitly supports Brown's claims? Strange.

The accusation was not made toward Trestman. What is he supposed to refute? He's a lawyer, is he not? I'm sure he sees no upside to responding to this stupid storyline.

Goodwin WR is an ideal #3 burner wideout

A little short for my liking at only 5'9", but he has world class speed. Literally Olympic caliber speed. Problem is after the combine, he's probably going to work himself in the 3rd round range....if he hasn't already. I think he'd be more of an asset in the slot and running after the catch than just running go routes.

Jake Long wants at least $10 million a year.

Only Joe Thomas and Jason Peters will make more than $10 mil next year at LT. Gross is 3rd at 8.7 mil and Ferguson is 4th with 7.25 mil. This is base salary though. I'm gonna have to pass on him now if that's what it takes. I wonder what a guy like Beatty will ask for.

I'm OK with that as long as he doesn't get more than 25Mil guaranteed. I don't think Long is going to be a star for his entire next contract anyway. But as a Bears fan, they need to do something about the OL now. If that means overpaying for a couple years then cutting him loose, then so be it. That gives the team a couple years to fix the rest of the OL and get the offensive scheme in place, while having a top 5 LT in the meantime.

Doesn't leave room for much else, but I don't really want much else. Re-sign Melton. To clear money, restructure Tillman and Peppers. Cut guys like Hester, Davis, Toeina, etc. Should have no problem with the cap even with giving a LT whatever he wants.

Guards are getting paid 8-9Mil/year now. Carl Nicks got over 9 per year on average. Davin Joseph got almost 8 per year. A top 5 LT is definitely getting 10.

LTs are in a lot of demand but I'd be surprised if he ended up getting that much given the injury questions and his decline last season. I'd rather have Beatty than Long anyways because of those negatives.

Yep.

I'd probably give Clady 45 mill guaranteed.

Probably have to give the Broncos a few high draft picks to sign him.

Agreed - they'd be nuts not to tag him.

Does he really have the right to be making such demands? I know his first few years in the league he was absolutely dominant, but the last two have been injury plagued and his performance while on the field has been pretty shoddy. He of course should be payed as one of the better LTs in the league; but to blow away pretty much the rest of the LT market? I don't think so.

Of course he has the right to request $10m/year. Dominant tackles are rare, and valuable. They also don't make it to free agency very often. The NFL salary cap keeps going up but first contracts have shrunk with the new CBA. The whole reason the union was willing to accept that is they see more money going to already established players rather than unknowns. If he can make $15m under the franchise tag, and his first contract was 5/57, why wouldn't he ask for $10m per as a 28 year old free agent?

Nobody likes to pay running backs anymore. The league is all about passing and in order to pass you need a QB, a WR and a LT.
