Ruben Amaro is so, so terrible at his job.

When you're a GM with an open checkbook and a weak division, it's pretty easy to wing it. Job description for 2013: win in 2013. Job description for 2014: worry about in in 2014.

Yeah it's a weak division... outside of the Nats and Braves, who else is there?

SCS just wanted to serve his daily reminder that he has absolutely no [expletive] idea what he's taking about.

Between 2007-2011, it was pretty much a two horse race between the Phils and Braves. Amaro took over in I believe '09, and really didn't have to do much general managing, so to speak. 2012 was the first turbulence he's run into, a big deal of which was injury related. They still have a team that's too expensive and aging to attempt to break down, so the answer is throw money at it and keep trying to win now.

From 2007 through 2009, the Braves did not finish 1st or 2nd in the NL East once. In 2008 they lost 90 games.

He was getting ready for a walk-off when he wrote that. It's not his fault.

No really, I love it. Great post. It's like a [expletive] cousin working in the family business but noboody can tell him to get the [expletive] out.

Honest question - Is there a way to turn off the expletive filter? I'm comfortable reading the written word, even if it's typically considered inappropriate.

If you could do that, we'd never get Ribbie back here for a chat ever again.

Where are you reading that?

Source: #Rays will send James Shields and Wade Davis to #Royals for Wil Myers and other prospects.

Interesting trade. I wouldn't have done it if I were the Royals, but at least they get an interesting return.

Wonder how the Royals will pay for it. They were supposed to be right up against their owner-imposed limit.

Like this a lot for the Royals in theory without knowing the details. SP was a black hole for them, but the rest of the team is respecatable-ish. Gotta make a push at some point.

Royals probably end up on the short end of this trade, but if their owner is actually going to be as stingy as he's been acting lately, then they probably need to go for it now when they feel like they're just a starting pitcher away. Of course it all hinges on the young position players making the improvements this year that they are hoping for. For all the years they've put into building a competitor it sucks that they still won't be the favorite going into this season.

Of course Myers could be always be a bust...

EDIT: But why in the world did they tender Hochevar a $4MM+ contract?

If you're going to trade a prospect like Wil Myers you have to get a better player than James Shields. I realize Shields is a good pitcher but come on.

They should've gotten a legitimate ace like Price for Myers.
