Just so we can see these words in order.

Te'o claimed he had a girlfriend.

He never met her, but he had a somewhat elaborate story to claim he did.

He never spoke to her, but had a somewhat elaborate story to claim he had on many occasions.

He was under the impression she got into a serious car crash, got cancer, and then died, but never physically went to assist her, be with her, or grieve her.

The twitter account he interacted with "her" is tied to a man people call a friend of Te'o's family, who interacts with Te'o on Twitter and apparently had USC/ND tickets because of that relationship.

Te'o has spoken very publicly about his girlfriend, her problems, and her death, but claims his embarrassment that his relationship with her was online is the reason he didn't divulge the extent of their relationship.

In spite of all these things, Te'o wants us to believe that he is 0% complicit with what happened and that he's been victimized by someone/someones who were not once quoted in an article blowing the lid on the whole ordeal.

I don't know what ND did to you, but your irrationality on this one subject will forever baffle me.

I know the Catholic church has experience with cover-ups. Maybe Te'o gets outed because he's Mormon.

Anyway, I would like to send my condolences to the ND family and to Te'o because ESPN is acting like its the right thing for me to do.

Is that really that irrational a take? The Tuiasosopo connection is the linchpin to me, and given what and how much information was in that Deadspin article that ties Tuiasosopo to Lennay Kukua, it strikes me as way more unlikely that Te'o was duped by someone that close to him rather than he was at least partially complicit.

Swarbrick said earlier that this Tuiasosopo character being the perpetrator of this thing doesn't jibe with the info his investigators found.

Complicit? How? That he perpetrated the fraud? To what end? He made up a gf for 2+ years? He was on the cover of SI before the alleged death.

Then you think a lawyer and AD of ND is going to go out and publicly defend the kid and speak about the details, including the investigator they hired? I mean. What's the end game? Where's the benefit to a quiet, shy kid that everyone thought was sincere

"I really wanted to see her, but I knew that she made me promise, 'If anything happens to me, you'll stay over there and you'll play. You'll honor me through the way you play. I'd rather have you there,'" Te'o recalled. "She asked me if I like Howard Stern's buttcheese."

To me, given his ethnicity and faith, the homosexuality angle seems much more likely than him trying to drum up popularity, but of course that question goes both ways as well. Why would you string along Te'o for 2+ years and then fake that character's death? Is "con the college middle linebacker for multiple years, hope he gets famous, then fake their death and blackmail him for the secret" a much more likely outcome?

Yes. Do you realize this is a thing that people do? He's not the only guy to get hoaxed.

Why is the world would he risk his NFL career for this? Bc he's gay? What does being gay have to do with killing an internet gf off to fraud the public?

If he wasn't in on it then he is a first-rate moron. It's more likely he was on it, and assuming Deadspin's reporting is accurate, it's very reasonable to believe he was in on it.

If you read the Deadspin article, this didn't last 2+ years. Te'o Tweeted the account he thought was Kekua's 'pleased to meet you' in October 2011. If you believe Manti's version of events, he presumably made up the Stanford meeting in retrospect to cover the fact that he met her online.
