Not bad for a dude who looks like he should be sitting in a porch swing holding a banjo

Wonder how mad she is gonna be for wasting her time once she finds out he's likely not an NFL prospect

Well, Reuben Foster just decommitted from AU. Carl Lawson will soon. I'm officially in meltdown mode along with dew.

Finally watched some video on Ruben Foster and all I can say is holy [expletive]. Reminds me of the Fast Times at Ridgemont High football scene.

his high school teammate, Cam Luper, is recruiting him hard to go to Texas A&M with him. Foster stopped by the AU athletic complex yesterday to speak with Malzahn, and Foster had the following to say:

“I went by there. It went great,” Foster said. “I’m going to give him a chance.

“It’s the first time I met him. It was a good impression. He’s a nice man, a clean-cut guy.”

Foster said Malzahn’s message to him was simple.

“He needs me. He looks forward to coaching me,” Foster said. “He said he wants me back on the boat.”

I think he'll end up at Georgia, A&M, or Auburn.

Doesn't A&M have about 60 recruits already?

They are in the SEC now, things like numbers and math don't matter

Numbers, shmumbers. If this kids wants to be an Aggie we will make room for him. I had heard that CEL has been trying to recruit him to A&M for a while now. Supposedly told him if he visits it will be all over. While I love to hear that I'm not sure it will be quite as impressive a visit without there being a game happening.

They are saying that Tee Martin will not join the Vols staff, which is surprising.

Yeah, Erik Ainge said he talked to Tee personally and Tee said he was staying. Extremely disappointing, but I can understand not wanting to travel across the country and uproot his family after 1 year for a lateral move.

That said, I'm really concerned about this team's recruiting ability. Jay Graham and Tommy Thigpen can both really recruit, but there's a lot of unproven coaches (at a major level at least) and coaches who failed in the SEC already (Jon Jancek and Willie Martinez) on the staff.

dew - lots of smoke re: Chaney going to Mizzou to be the OC. What are your thoughts on him?

I absolutely love Chaney. Reports are he's a relentless recruiter and I know 1 or 2 really good offensive linemen (Zac Fulton being one) who threatened to decommit if Dooley didn't retain Chaney when Lane left. He's primarily an offensive line and QB guy, able to work with both quite well. Most people around here believe he was the primary guy who turned Jonathan Crompton from a complete trainwreck in 2008 to a good SEC QB in 2009. The players love him as well, as he got a Gatorade bath as the interim HC when we beat Kentucky this year.

He likes to run the spread with a lot of pistol mixed in and does have a tendency to get a little pass happy, but that could simply be because we had Bray/Hunter/CP/Rivera/Rogers on offense. I was typically really happy with his playcalling, though. He's also been a coach in the NFL, so he's got the extra credibility from that in recruiting.

I think he'd be a great hire for Missouri. He's the coach I'm most unhappy with Butch Jones for letting go - I think it's really going to hurt our offense going forward.

Any thoughts on losing Pittman as the O-Line coach?

Any thoughts on losing Pittman as the O-Line coach?

I hated that loss too. We had a ridiculous amount of talent on the offensive line when Harry Heistand was here - I honestly believe the entire 5 starting o-linemen will play in the NFL - but it underperformed dramatically in run blocking. When Pittman came in a year ago, the running game went from 90 yds/gm in 2011 to 160 yds/gm. We also went from 2.8 yds/rush in 2011 to 4.7 yds/rush in 2012. Part of that was adding Jay Graham to the staff, but a lot of that was Pittman as well.

Butch runs a zone blocking scheme and there's some question how well Pittman can coach that scheme, but unless that was the case I struggle to see the o-line coach as anything but a downgrade.

I was hoping he'd end up in Lexington, but UK went after Troy's O-Line coach.

That's an interesting take on Hiestand. He's ND's run game coordinator and gets a lot of credit for the much improved run game esp as the backs are learning to adapt to the zone scheme. His lineman love him. ND fans tend to see him as an upgrade from Warriner.

Dew, UK just hired Hinshaw, any thoughts?

Less high on him than the other 2, but he's a really good hire for UK. By all accounts he's a terrific recruiter, not as sure about his coaching ability though. He was responsible for getting Cordarrelle Patterson and other top players to UT though.

Once Tee turned us down, I was hoping Butch would bring Hinshaw back.

It's kind of weird to me. Hiestand came in very well respected and when he left (mutually), Brian Kelly just glowed about him. But the running game was just utterly inept while he was here and while it's not all on him, he's a big part of it. I'm thinking it had to simply be that the players and he weren't meshing or something like that.

I know the current players loved Pittman (2 threatened to go pro if he didn't come back) and nobody batted an eye when Hiestand left.

Could be a personality fit. Kelly is a micromanager to the nth degree and largely expects his coaches to be that way to. It sounds like Hiestand fits that better where Warriner may not have. Maybe the players recruited by Lane and Dooley didn't fit that style. Who knows. But I'm glad to have him.

Also sounds like Diaco is interviewing at UW. I could see him turning down some schools for a better HC gig but not UW. Hope someone else gets it.

A large group of top JUCOs have decided to commit to the same school, and they picked KU. Could really help turn around our defense. Got a 4* DT, a JUCO AA DB (and two other DBs), and one of the top JUCO LBs. I know JUCO transfers can be hit or miss, but we need all the talent we can get.

All signs point to Kliff Kingsbury being offered and taking the Texas Tech job. Guess I was wrong about that. Oh well, I think it's a bad move on both sides but I have no hard feelings about him leaving. We'll be fine with our next OC.

Tommy Tuberville is a real piece of work...

http://www.usatoday.com/story/gameon/2012/12/12/tommy-tuberville-texas-tech-cincinnati/1763615/

Tommy Tuberville was in such a rush to leave Texas Tech that he didn't even have time to finish his dinner.

Junior college offensive lineman Devonte Danzey, who was in Lubbock for an official visit last weekend, told the recruiting site Wreckem247.com that Tuberville stepped away from a dinner with several recruits and assistant coaches Friday night and never returned. Saturday morning, Tuberville surprised many by accepting an offer to become Cincinnati's coach.

"The waitress brought our food out, and we thought (Tuberville) went to the bathroom, but he never came back to dinner," Danzey said. "Then next thing I know, the next day, he made an announcement that he's going to Cincinnati."

The next morning, when Danzey and other recruits were set to take a tour of the campus, Texas Tech offensive line coach Chris Thomsen (also the team's interim coach) told the group Tuberville was gone.

Think this is bad? It's nothing compared to Tuberville's exit from Mississippi in 1998. Less than a week after saying "They'll have to carry me out of here in a pine box" – meaning he was locked in for life – Tuberville took the job at Auburn.
