In general, I liked Brenly, but his meatballish idiotic attacks on Aramis Ramirez will what I'll always remember him for.

i couldn't shake this exact thought as i was reading through all of the praise here

That, plus the repeated dogging of Soriano. He'd at least praise him from time to time, but seemingly did it begrudgingly and couldn't wait to get back to trashing him.

like how he spent such considerable effort praising his improvement in defensive performance, and each time it would sound like his statements were ending with three elipses rather than a period, like he was about to triumph the comic insult dog him. but really, he was just validating his own previous criticisms of Soriano's "effort"

Yeah, those compliments couldn't have been more telegraphed and backhanded. Everything was with this "can you believe that this hopeless bum is actually managing to not [expletive] up?"-tone to it.

Regarding Kerry, I vote he does something more along the lines of post game first. Replace Hollandsworth. Win win, we get Kerry without throwing him right into the booth and replace Hollandworth.

There's a good chance this job won't come open again for quite a while, so if you want Kerry in there, now is the time. I don't see the risk in throwing him into the fire. What's he gonna do? Screw up the announcing for a 100 loss team? Oh no.

He's still young. If its another Brenly that spends 8-10 years here, he'll be what, 45?

there were annoying qualities about brenly for sure, but there's a 95% chance he's better than whoever his replacement will be, so this still sucks.

Steve Stone was in the Cubs booth for 21 years (though he did have his health absence). And who knows what Kerry's situation will be at that point, whether it's 10 or 20 years from now.

Agreed. Although I could definitely see him preferring to replace Hollandsworth, since he wouldn't have to travel.

Is it known that Wood wants/prefers to be involved in broadcasting in some capacity with the Cubs at some point? Or does he want/prefer to be involved in something else with the organization (coaching, FO, player development, etc.)?

Wood told ESPNChicago on Oct. 11 that he did not want to broadcast in the near future. He said his desire was to be with his three children and wife Sara.

Waddle and Silvy are about to have someone on from WGN who is going to play a significant role in the hiring process. I was passively listening, so I didn't catch the name.

Bob Vorwald. He basically didn't eliminate any names, complimented Bob, and said they'll take however long it takes to get the right guy.

No news.

Dan Bernstein just jokingly suggested Joe Sheehan as Brenly's replacement.

He joked about that to Kasper yesterday right after the news broke. They had a laugh about him yelling stuff.

Sutcliffe says he'll listen...

Sutcliffe has been offered the job before and turned it down. Would he be interested if the Cubs called again?

“I don’t know,” he replied. “They came to me before Joe Carter got it, before Bob got it. They came to (my house in) Kansas City a couple of times. They know the route if they choose to go that way again. I don’t know.”

Sutcliffe was a spring training instructor with the Cubs this year, and still has a strong relationship with the organization and the fan base.

“I will spend the rest of my life trying to repay the Cubs and the fans for everything they did for me,” Sutcliffe said. “If down the line it ends up I go back to working for them, that would be great.”

Sutcliffe said “at some time I’m going to be buying a house in Chicago again.” He has another year remaining on his ESPN deal.

“I’m real happy where I’m at,” he said. “ESPN has been great. They expanded my duties this year. Believe it or not, they wanted my face on TV more. I never heard that before. I’ve been told they want me on the mound more, but ... I really enjoyed the 'Baseball Tonight.' Monday nights were a lot of fun. But as everybody knows, everything that has happened to me in baseball, I owe to the Cubs.

“With Theo (Epstein) there, being back in spring training, it was like I never left. I feel like for the first time I had a role there. I felt like my opinion was valued, and I hope to expand that role. I don’t know what it’s going to lead to. The only thing I know is pitching. They’re not going to have me work with any of the hitters.”
