He's pretty unremarkable in the booth, but the alternatives could easily be a LOT worse, so I guess it's cool he's sticking around. .

I understand this line of thinking, as the scars from the Joe Carter Era still run deep. However, change "in the booth" to "on the field" and you could be talking about Joe Mather. Things can always be worse. That's no reason not to look for someone better.

There's really no comparison to be made about players and announcers though. There's like 5 announcers that don't suck. It's hard to get better.

D'Back reporter Nick Piecoro tweeting today: "Source says Dbacks expected to reach out to Cubs announcer and former manager Bob Brenly about announcing vacancy, if they haven't already."

Apparently, D'Backs are also pursuing Steve Stone, FWIW. They are looking for two new guys on the TV side.

I never cared for Brenly, but he's far from the worst color guy. If Brenly goes I hope they let Len choose and I hope his choice is Tommy Hutton. They were a great team for the Marlins broadcasts back in the 02 and 03.

I'm for drunk Mark Grace. I like to be entertained.

Drunk Mark Grace being in a one man car wreck, now that's entertainment.

LOL. I'd like to hear him every day too.

Krukow and Kuiper aren't bad out here in San Jose.

I'd be quite happy going through the rest of my life without ever hearing his voice.

am I the only guy who really liked stone? Guess so.

I loved him when I was a kid. Then I realized what he was all about after I grew up.

Same with me.

Isn't Moreland's contract up as well?

I think Moreland signed a 3-year deal, so he is still under contract for 2013. I hope the Cubs will explore their options for that role after the 2013 season.

What they should do is get a good, young play-by-play guy to pair with Pat and have him call a few innings and let Pat handle everything else.

I was super awesome as a kid, so I hated him and Harry even then.

But Pat's entire schtick is that he's just a humble play by play guy who knows nothing about what it's like to play the game so he spends the entire game praising his partners exploits and asking what the players are going through.

I don't mean that as an insult. I just don't see him working as well with another play by play guy.

I hated Harry Caray so I always enjoyed the Steve Stone, DeWayne Staats part of the broadcast. I liked Stone until he left. Ever since then he's been pretty brutal. I guess a lot of people have trouble separating the two.

I still remember the camera crew spotting a fat guy in the stands and Steve Stone saying "There's the president of the John McSherry fan club".

I don't see why you think people have trouble separating the two. He was able to hide what an Ahole he was in the 80's (although in retrospect you realize what Harry always teased him about) but now he can't.

I don't really pay much attention to Steve Stone and haven't since he left. The fact that he's an [expletive] now doesn't bother me. It seems like a lot of people can only think of Steve Stone as the bitter DB he's become and that negates that he was once an entertaining color commentator.

Yep. When I was a teenage I loved him and Thom Brennamen as a team (Bow Tie Tuesdays anyone?). I thought their banter was pointed and funny. Now he comes across as more snobby and elitist.
