Yeah, don't really understand it. Where does Minnesota go from here? I mean they only lose Rodney Williams and Mbakwe, so there's some solid guards left there. I think recruiting has not been great though, I'm guessing Tubby is not a huge fan of that part of the job?

Figured this should be in this thread rather than the tournament thread, but Tubby Smith just got fired at Minnesota.

I thought he did a good job at Minnesota. Who are they going to hire that will be any better?

they'll make a run at Shaka, since they have VCU's old AD. I'll bet that they fired Tubby just because of that.

Shaka may not be so averse to recruiting in the twin cities as he would be in Chicago.

That's definitely something I've heard from the Kentucky fans about him. He just wasn't very interested in getting out there for either recruiting or fan stuff and that really rubbed a lot of their fans the wrong way.

I wouldn't want to deal with the weirdos in Lexington either.

In 1975 Bill Musselman resigned as Minnesota coach and went to the ABA. Violations were subsequently discovered, Gophers put on probation.

In 1986 Jim Dutcher resigned as Minnesota coach mid-season amid a rape investigation involving three of his players.

Dutcher was succeeded by Clem Haskins, who was succeeded by Dan Monson, who was succeeded by Tubby Smith. Minnesota's not very good at this.

Minnesota's A.D. is serious about basketball and reportedly really respected by basketball coaches and connected through that Villa 7 deal he started.

You never know with any new coaching change and they have to upgrade their facilities but I would have been much less concerned with Minnesota if Tubby stayed there.

Getting a back rub the wrong way isn't the worst thing in the world. Picky Minnesota fans.
