Someone on Facebook posted this. I didn't get to watch the game (or many games this season), but what's going on here?

The game had just ended and he was looking back and telling the girls in the student section to call him. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but earlier in the game he was taking the ball out of bounds right in front of the student section (waiting for the ball from the ref) and the students were right there on top of him yelling things. Maybe they said some things to him and he was just joking back.

Has the Big Ten ever been as good as it is right now, or at at least at the top? Indiana, Michigan, Ohio State and Illinois all look legit, and a very talented Michigan State team, at #19 and with a neutral site victory over Kansas already on their resume, is almost an afterthought.

Congrats Illini fans. I expected to come on here tonight and read sully's 'only my team' ramblings, but jubilant Illini banter is not a bad consolation prize.

1989. National Champion, Michigan. Another in the Final Four, Illinois. Indiana and Iowa were both Top Ten teams most of the year. I think Iowa, Illinois and Michigan all had at least 3 future first round NBA picks on their teams. I don't remember but I am sure that MSU, Purdue, OSU, Wisconsin and Minnesota were probably good also. I think a couple of teams did not make the tourney because of how good the Big Ten was at the top. I think there was a full double round robin at the time and it was hard to get wins against the top 4 teams. So the middle schools probably had at least 6 losses before playing each other. It was almost impossible to make the tourney at the time with a losing conference record.

89 was the closest Wisconsin came to not sucking in the pre-Bennett years, and they were still lower half of the Big Ten, though they did make the NIT that season. Bennett started the turn around and Bo completed it. But they were pretty much crap from the early 60's to late 90's.

Thus far the Illini are playing a more aggressive style or maybe it just appears so when one takes the ball to the hoop. I know the 3 pts are falling but, Paul, Bertrand, Abrams and Richardson are taking to the hoop more often than last season. What puzzles me is Weber recruited these players yet, he didn't take advantage of their ability to get to the hoop.

Puzzling is one way to characterize it. [expletive] infuriating is another.

Last year's squad was a team just begging to be turned loose, but Weber repressed the strengths of his roster with his ridiculous system.

Illinois up to 10th in both polls (leaped over Mizzou, Cincy and Gonzaga). Four B1G teams in the top 10, 6 in the top 19.

1. Indiana

3. Michigan

7. Ohio State

10. Illinois

13. Minnesota

19. Michigan State

Quite a dropoff after that as no other Big Ten team received a vote for top 25 in either poll. As great as the top half is, the bottom half might be quite mediocre. Wisconsin looks like they are having a down year, Iowa looks a year or two away, Purdue is down, Northwestern isn't as good as last year, etc.

That's because Weber's motion offense never actually involved the player with the ball moving.

There aren't any Sam Maniscalcos playing this year. When one guy can't run, it's really hard to use a motion offense.

i heard on another board that weber was known to say "if you're getting a lot of free throws, you're taking a lot of contested shots."

which would explain a lot.

I agree on both Iowa and Wisconsin but I doubt it's too much of a stretch to say that they could be bubble teams. That could be 8 teams in the tournament.

Why is the Illinois game not on tv again tonight? So stupid. I'd be really pissed if I didn't have my dad's Comcast log in because my cable provider doesn't have access to ESPN3.

Seriously, what's the point of BTN? Purdue has the same thing for some games. They should broadcast all the regular season games of the revenue sports for B1G teams.

Color me wrong about Illinois @ Gonzaga.

Brandon Paul has obviously revamped his game. Much better ball handing, shooting & aggressiveness.

It's amazing how not having half of your shots being bailouts because your offense sucks helps a guys percentages.

I was expecting a pretty big letdown after the Gonzaga game. Combine that with the fact that Illinois hasn't played its best against lesser opponents, and you get a game where you struggle like this.

I hope Illinois kicks them all in their fat faces.
