I think Sullivan's right. Kerry's people used the media (Kaplan) as leverage in the negotiations; After saying "Cubs or retire," at the end of the season, there was none. The threat that he'd leave was a smokescreen.

This has got to be a PR move.

 

I'm in favor of it, in this case. If Kerry wants to be here and it's reasonable, there's no issue. He's easily the most popular guy on the roster, and you have to give the fans someone to cheer for in what will probably be a lost year.

he's got such an ego that he can't just ignore people trolling him. i love it.

 

I turned on CTL last night just as he was about to introduce a "well yesterday it looked like Kerry Wood was leaving and now it looks like he's staying" segment and the smirk on his face just screamed, "damn right I'm the reason this got done".

I think he was saying that the ploy of "Kerry might be leaving, we want him to stay" was a PR move. To drum up some goodwill with the mouth breathing meat head contingent, not that signing Kerry is a PR move. We all know that, and I'm pretty sure 99.9% of us are cool with that.
