Theo will not lose Wood unless he wants to lose Wood.

Are you saying that he has no need for Viagra or Cialis?

Yes, but in a less "hey guys, look at me making a funny joke!!" kind of way.

NNOOOOOOOOOOOOO

But who will be our veteran reliever now!?!?! WHY THE [expletive] DIDN'T WE RE-SIGN GRABOW GOD DAMNIT

P.S. I'd rather Kerry go somewhere he can win than be on a rebuilding team and just go through the motions. Plus it means we don't have to commit another guy to the 40-man

Yea if the Phillies want him, I'd rather he make more money and have a shot at a ring.

what the hell else are they going to spend the money on? this is just being cheap.

Refusing to spend money on impact players is being cheap. Holding to a budgetary figure on a middle reliever is just being prudent.

If Kerry wants to come back at a resonable price, there's no reason not to have him back. After all, with the ragtag group that will take the field in 2012, you may as well give the fans at least someone to cheer for.

And doing this while at the same time wasting money on Reed Johnson and Rodrigo Lopez would qualify as (fill in the blank?)

I wonder if this has anything to do with the 40 man situation. I could see being annoyed if you're Wood being told you have to wait until they clear up the roster situation for you to fit in.

I can't see that. If he's willing to keep coming back to the Cubs on reasonable terms I'd have to imagine he'd be comfortable waiting out roster manipulation in the meantime. My guess is it would be more about not wanting to come back to a completely overhauled crappy team and/or feeling Theo is lowballing him.

Doubt it. If they wanted Wood back as much as they'd earlier reported I'm sure they'd risk someone of the 40 man.

It's also not impossible that they'd been lowballing him while overstating their desire to bring him back with a pretty good idea that someone would eventually make him a better offer and he'd take it. That way, they'd be able to make it more palatable to the fans as an amicable split with the Kerry will always have a place in the organization and we look forward to working with him again spiel.

FWIW, if he wanted $4 million and he was able to repeat last years numbers (and not regress) we'd actually be overpaying for what he'd actually be worth, if that helps some of you sleep at night.

Are there any other rumored teams interested besides Philly? I'd like to see him get a ring, but I don't want to have to root for Philly. Rangers would be nice.

Hoyer says #Cubs want Kerry Wood back and that they've offered him a "substantial" raise.

Blah. I think we should have let him walk, but I guess he is basically the biggest name on the roster now besides Castro.
