and what exactly is involved with being a "fan" of seinfeld? do you wear t-shirts, go to meetings, attend local reenactments?

His calling in life is to be the best Seinfeld fan possible.

But man, can he wear a tie.

Woah. What brought on the LaHair hating and misuse of internet memes?

TT's irrational and intense hatred of him, I think.

combined with WSR's irrational and intense adulation of him.

Is irrational and intense adulation Australian for good enough left handed bat off the bench at league min?

Well, it IS a story about love, deception, greed, lust and...unbridled enthusiasm.

Unbridled enthusiasm?

Well , that's what led to Billy Mumphrey's downfall.

Not sure if anyone has looked through the comments section of Keith Law's blog on the trade, but found this interesting.

Keith, it seems the only red flag surrounding Rizzo (and its a big one) is a suspected slow bat, which calls to mind a failed former Cub phenom, Hee Seop Choi. Rizzo and Choi share many similarities...power, patience, size, athletic...and Choi's inability to handle the inside heat was ultimately exploited and quickly ended his career. How would you compare Rizzo to Choi and do you share the concerns on his bat speed?

This issue is nonexistent with Rizzo. I'm not sure who's saying that but they apparently haven't seen him.

I don't know how many people are concerned about his bat speed. It's more the long looping swing that he has, which almost everyone acknowledges. This feels like a case of a bad question.

The correct response when TT's boy is the Cubs' starting 1B:

Am I the only one that every time I heard the name "Professor Farnsworth" I thought it was some sort of ironic nickname for our former pitcher?

How does this line sound from Rizzo in the future:

.270/.350/.480 with 25 HR power?

Iunno it's early and I'm bored.

I know I'm going to regret this, but is that really too far from Brian LaHairs absolute ceiling? Take off 5-10 points from the BA and a 10 from th SLG and it sounds reasonable from LaHair. Granted it would be great for the first year or to from Rizzo as opposed to the absolute ceiling from the 29 year old LaHair but I'd hope and expect for Rizzo to develop into something more. Is Adam Dunn too much to expect? Sickels had his ceiling at Ryan Howard, but if we could get a defensively capable Adam Dunn color me thrilled.

Let's get him up to an average of .360/.500 and have him do that for the next twelve years.

Probably.

Can't be the only one. Wasn't "Professor Farnsworth" Farnsy's handle on that baseball dugout site with the fake quotes?

C'mon- one of you has a quote from that site about Soriano not being an outfielder- back me up on this.

that wouldn't be horrible, but it would be a disappointment. an .830 OPS at first base isn't really a long-term solution

Obviously it depends on where offense goes, but right now an .830 OPS from 1b is above-average. Throw in plus defense and you've definitely got a long-term solution.

Best comps I could find in 2011:

Mark Teixeira hit .248/341/494 with good defense and was worth 4.2 fWAR in 4.2 fWAR

Carlos Santana hit .239/351/457 with negative defense and was worth 3.8 fWAR in 155 games.

Michael Cuddyer hit 284/356/459 with slightly negative defense and baserunning for 3.1 fWAR in 139 games.

You make a good point but the concern is probably that if a guy peaks as an 830 OPS 1B, he's going to be a 785 OPS 1B at a pretty young age and maybe out of baseball by 33, so while it can be an exceptable level of production, one guy probably isn't going to do it for long.
