How does this line sound from Rizzo in the future:

.270/.350/.480 with 25 HR power?

Iunno it's early and I'm bored.

I know I'm going to regret this, but is that really too far from Brian LaHairs absolute ceiling?

He better get to that ceiling awfully quickly, because he turns 30 this year.

Cubs fans are so dumb

I love how every prospect in baseball has some failed Cubs comp

Cubs fans are so dumb

I love how every time something silly happens they pretend Cubs fans are the only ones who do it

Ok, fine. We just have lots and lots of the idiots.

So do the other highly visible/popular teams.

that wouldn't be horrible, but it would be a disappointment. an .830 OPS at first base isn't really a long-term solution

Obviously it depends on where offense goes, but right now an .830 OPS from 1b is above-average. Throw in plus defense and you've definitely got a long-term solution.

Best comps I could find in 2011:

Mark Teixeira hit .248/341/494 with good defense and was worth 4.2 fWAR in 4.2 fWAR

Carlos Santana hit .239/351/457 with negative defense and was worth 3.8 fWAR in 155 games.

Michael Cuddyer hit 284/356/459 with slightly negative defense and baserunning for 3.1 fWAR in 139 games.

Yea. People are clearly still having a hard time adjusting their perception of offensive numbers to the current environment, myself included. That's why I'm trying to look more at WAR nowadays (with the added benefit that it's far more comprehensive).

I don't disagree necessarily, but at the same time there were still seven qualified 1B with a .900 OPS last year. And of the nine 1B that had an OPS greater than .830, their teams averaged 89 wins(meaning teams without a > .830 OPS 1B averaged 77 wins). It's a very important position to get offense from.

Definitely a fair point.

Tonight, Rizzo tied Alonso in homers at 3. Of course, Alonso has 249 more at bats than Rizzo does, at this exact moment. But Alonso may get another at bat tonight to try to go back on top, so the Pads have that going for them.

the padres are [expletive] nuts if they don't move the fences in. what are they waiting for? if only for the psyche of their damn players

You help the psyche of the hitters and ruin the psyche of the pitchers.

I wouldnt want pitchers running around like they're the [expletive] when their numbers are due to the environment. Besides, even the pitchers are fpr it from an article I read a couple weeks ago and now frustratingly cannot find.

Do we know who changed Rizzo's swing? If it is someone from the Padres or someone else not in the Cubs organization, lets get him on board right away.

It was us, I'm pretty sure.

I also sort of recall Sveum having something to do with it in ST.

yeah, rizzo has equaled alonso's HR output already.

Part Petco, Part Alonso not being good. .837 MiLB OPS while being old for some levels. 36 HR in 1300+ MiLB PA. Never understood the hype.
