Rickey Ledee, Alfonso Soriano and Nick Johnson. Oh wait, that's the package we were going to get for Sammy.

Their system has underperformed this year. Definitely not the team I'd want to see Garza dealt to. If it helps drive up the price for Boston or Toronto though, more power to them.

Yep. Don't really love their system, but it never hurts to get their names into the bidding acution this early.

I'm still dreaming of a Turner and Castellanos package from the Tigers. They need a really high end consistent pitcher. They have Verlander and a bunch of back of the rotation guys. Scherzer and Porcello have been bad.

Turner had the dead arm issues in the spring and has struggled badly this year. Until further notice, the shine has worn off considerably for me.

Also read the Tigers don't plan to trade for another starter. Could be a smoke screen/things can change, but I don't think they'd offer up a huge package for Garza at this point.

Wasn't Mike Stanton involved? I seem to remember that we were intent on getting a lefty reliever in return, and even as a stone-age thinking 16 year old baseball fan I thought "this is [expletive] stupid"

I thought Lilly was in there somewhere, too. In fact I thought it was almost a "done deal" that it was going to be Soriano, Lilly, and one or both of Johnson or Ledee. This was 12 years ago, however, so obviously my memory is hazy.

The Yankees probably aren't the ideal team to complete a trade right now, but they aren't a bad team either. There's more than enough talent to put together a trade that I would be amenable with, but obviously, I might wish for better. That said, Garza has to be on a better roll for us to get a better package in return, or a bidding war of some sort needs to emerge. The Yankees still have one legitimate elite chip in Gary Sanchez, though, and while Banuelos has lost some luster, he still looks like a possible 2/3 lefty starter in the upper levels, a very nice asset. There's definitely enough young raw ability in the lower levels to mix and match and come up wit a decent deal (say, a power arm like Jose Campos and one more guy).

Probably not the best team to deal with in a trade like this, but we might not have the ideal teams in the bidding.

How is Sanchez an elite chip?

Your right, I should've used elite talent.

He's still an elite catcher prospect, with a chance to be average, if not a tiny tick better, behind the plate, elite bat speed, and big time power potential. He has to work on some technique issues behind the plate, and has to cut down his swing a bit more than he has so far (but he's made some improvements), but he's so young right now. There's some makeup issues that I obviously can't provide an answer for, but I've got no problem considering him an elite talent. Maybe not an elite chip ... but I doubt we're getting a top 20 prospect in baseball for Garza.

You're much more well-versed in the prospect world, so I tend to believe you, but I see BA with him ranked 84th, and I see him repeating a level with no tangible improvements. Sell me on him. #84 as the centerpiece to a Garza trade does nothing for me.

I thought Sanchez is iffy to stick behind the plate? On a side note, getting the Red Sox to part with Barnes and Bradley would be excellent.

Yeah, I'm not that big a Sanchez fan either.

Don't know anything about him, but that Mason Williams (I think) fellow was ranked in the top 25 prospects on ESPN's updated top 25.

I don't think they would move him for Garza.

Remember when Toronto scooped Lawrie for Marcum?

Yes. But the fact that marcum was signed for a few more years makes a big difference.
