Somewhat strange bit of info.

At a fundraiser for ALS research this week David Wright was honored. He was sitting at a table with Jeff Loria, and when speaking he said something to the effect of "I would like my teammate to stay to my left, but I'm not sure if that will be possible with Mr. Loria around."

Reyes going to die and go to hell or something?

No he's leaving the Mets.

...to go to a team owned by the devil incarnate

We have scouts in the Domincan that can watch that, though.

Sure, but if the hitters are still overly aggressive isn't it difficult to judge from the stands whether a guy is actually throwing strikes that would be considered good strikes in a more patient league? It's not like they have Fox broadcasting with the K zone or anything.

It's not perfect, but it's not that bad, either. If nothing else, you can tell by the hitter's swing path and how much the have to reach, pull their hands in, etc.

I always loved Cabrera. One of many odd likes of pitchers throughout the years.

HA! I remember that. Strange.

Carroll Nearing Multiyear Deal With Unknown Team

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [November 11 at 12:50pm CST]

12:50pm: The Twins have had recent discussions for Carroll, according to Morosi (on Twitter).

12:19pm: The Braves and Indians aren't finalists for Carroll, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter).

11:40am: The Padres are not the team nearing a deal with Carroll, reports MLB.com's Corey Brock (on Twitter).

10:57am: The Dodgers aren't the team that's nearing a deal with Carroll, according to Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times (on Twitter). Troy Renck of the Denver Post says the Rockies aren't the mystery team (Twitter link) and Morosi reports that the Tigers aren't involved.

10:36am: The Blue Jays are showing serious interest in Carroll and were one of three finalists for him as of yesterday, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (all links go to Twitter). Morosi hears that the infielder is "very close" to agreeing to a deal.

7:38am: Jamey Carroll is nearing a multiyear deal with an unknown team, according to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick (all Twitter links). The Tigers, Rockies, Dodgers and Indians have been mentioned as potential suitors for Carroll, a Millenium Sports Management client who is expected to sign within a few days. The Phillies and Braves have also expressed interest.

The 37-year-old infielder played shortstop and second base for the Dodgers in 2011, posting a .290/.359/.347 line in 510 plate appearances. He hasn't posted an on-base percentage below .355 in any of the past four seasons and he has a career mark of .356 after a decade in the Major Leagues. Carroll, who also has experience at third base and in the outfield, stole ten bases without getting caught this past season. He is not a ranked free agent and won't cost his new team a draft pick.

Carroll spoke with MLBTR's Tim Dierkes in June and you can check out the interview here. Tim predicted the Tigers would sign Carroll, placing him 41st on MLBTR's list of top free agents.

You know it's a slow baseball rumor news day when they're playing up the Jamey Carroll sweepstakes this much. I wonder how many fan bases have their fingers crossed and eagerly F5ing MLBTR in hopes of landing a 37 year old journeyman utility middle infielder.

If ever there was a team who loves their gritty white guys it would be the Minnesota Twins.

The Twins, meanwhile, have Joe Mauer and fourteen guys who either are Nick Punto or look and play exactly like Nick Punto.

And sadly Carroll is an upgrade over what they marched out there last year.

I know they signed the Japanese fella who was injured for most of the season, so I don't we why they're paying for an older Ryan Theriot rather than giving him another chance. Either way, the Twins future depends heavily on Maur, Morneau, and their young pitching, so I doubt that it makes a difference whether Jamey Caroll, Alexi Casilla, or the Japanese guy are manning SS. Have you seen that roster without Kubel and Cuddyer? You have Mauer, Morneau, and a lot of bad.

I simply never understand why teams would go out of the way to sign guy like Carroll, Aaron Miles, and Nick Punto when they can probably pull one out of their farm system or pick one up for next to nothing during ST.

Not a free agent, but not going to start a thread for it, either...

@Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal

Sources: #Dodgers, Kemp in serious discussions on eight-year, $160M contract. #mlb

Volsted, Parra, Saunders, and Sonnenstine all intrigue me if nice and cheap, mainly as 4-5 statrter options especially if Z is railroaded.

I know nobody really wants Loney, but if we don't get Prince or Pujols, I'd be willing to take a flier out on him on a 1 year rather than give a multi year deal to Pena, Kotchman, or Cuddyer.

Of those guys:

Andres Torres in Reed Johnson's role.

Ian Stewart

James Loney-LH bat off bench (likely will start somewhere)

Schumaker-25th man type of role.

Barton

Luke Scott if he wasn't a rectum would be interesting.

Pitchers:

Gorzelanny in a similar role as '10.

Jose Mijares-Loogy

Pelfrey 6th starter/long-relief

Kuo-Loogy

Seriously, can someone beat the [expletive] out of this person?

I don't know, it might be quite interesting to see how things turn out if he throws banana chips at Big Z for acting like an animal.
