Stupid question: How much extra revenue does a playoff run generate for these teams? The Brewers aren't going to be suddenly able to afford to keep Fielder or anything, right?

I think it can potentially have a payroll impact, but Fielder's contract will be expensive and long, and the Brewers are really up against it with existing payroll.

I don't think Fielder even wants to remain in Milwaukee based on his comments this year. The only way I'd see it happening is if the Brewers offere him significantly more than the next highest bidder an that's just not likely to happen.

I do think that this playoff run pushes Pujols closer to resigning with STL though.

I'm not going to believe Pujols will leave STL till it happens. Both the Yanks and Sawx are set at first base, and the Sawx are set at DH too. Neither are really in a position to bid on Pujols unless they also decide to make a trade.

STL will offer Pujols somewhat close to what others offer and Pujols will probably just take it. Maybe - hopefully - I'm wrong.

Even if they could, after next year they'd never be able to re-up Greinke or Marcum or sign anybody else, and they'd be right back where they were when they could easily score 7 runs a game and give up 9.

Now if they don't trust Gamel, I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up with Pena. Brewers main weakness has been defense.

Please don't ever do that again.

While I'm not at all happy about being forced into the situation, I too will root for the Brewers a thousand times before ever wishing anything good on the Cardinals.

I really don't know how any Cub fan could actually root for the Cardinals, but I'm not going to judge anyone.

When your only NL option is the Brewers, rooting for the Cardinals is clearly the better choice.

Were in the minority in this thinking. The Cardinals already have enough bragging rights over us that another World Series would just be gravy. The Brewers gives yet another team those bragging rights. Besides, when I get [expletive] from a Brewers fan about the Cubs failures at least with them you can ask when they won their last World Series. We're running out of teams we can use that argument with.

The only way the NLCS could be worse is if it was Reds-Cards.

Man it's gonna be awesome to watch Chris Carpenter outduel Roy Halladay. :banghead:

I think Lohse is up next. Lohse outdueling Halladay would be even better.

I suppose on the plus side, if The Cards do win, half the team will drunk drive their cars off cliffs.

It's gonna be Carpenter. They lose their ace for the year and they're still gonna win the National League. Pretty unreal.

Yeah, it's Carpenter. Friday will be normal rest for him and even if it was three days rest, he only threw 64 pitches in Game 2.

No worries, Halladay's going to go eight innings, allowing one run on five hits and the Phillies are going to knock Carpenter around like they did in Game 2, taking the series with a 6-1 win.

Well, I was almost spot on with the Halladay part (off by one hit). The Cardinals part? Not so much.

I can't help but feel this same way. The Brewers are definitely a more likeable team, but I really don't need another fan base to give me crap. Especially here in the Chicago area, where there are just as many, if not more, Brewer fans as Cardinal fans. As much as I dislike the Cardinals, I think I have to reluctantly root for them. I would much rather both teams play to a never ending tie.

How about rooting for a 7-game NLCS with numerous extra innings affairs and several injuries so whichever team finally comes out on top easily gets destroyed by the Tigers or Rangers in the World Series?

I would take this as well. Regardless, I'll be rooting for the AL team in the WS.

That's the obvious. I think that the Tigers could beat the Brewers because of Verlander. The Brewers are a juggernaught at MIller, but on the road, they're a sub .500 team. Have Verlander pitch 2 games in MIlwaukee, and that could very well take away The Brewers advantage.

is TBS letting Brian Anderson call this series? wonder if any of his bias will come through.

Who cares? We have to put up with Buck and McCarver on Fox, and Greg Amsinger on MLBTV.

I almost made a thread about the Brian Anderson debacle... it's unfair to him and the audience that he has to call the Brewers in the NLCS... how could not just a little bias come through? I expect it will, especially against the Cards. Then again, I guess you can't have Stockton doing it.
