Oh God, C.C. ate right near where I live. Near my home. My home!!! Where I sleep, where I come to play with my toys.

A little bit too much information.

But yeah, I lived right by the Black Duck for about 10 years.

Wow. My sister lived around the corner from you for a couple years.

It's a great area and I miss it. I was there recently and noticed Sam's Wine and Spirits is now a Binny's? That was such a bummer to see.

I haven't been in that area probably since she left. And my trips to Chicago are incredibly infrequent now and for the foreseeable future.

Ugh, this is terrifying; I live right down the street from there.

She doesn't live anywhere near there now. Hasn't for probably 5-6 years.

Not coincidentally around the time I returned to the Chicago area.

I'll bet Darvish is extremely thrilled about the idea of leaving Japan for Canada.

Toronto is a pretty diverse multi-cultural city. It's not Kansas City.

But it's still Canada.

Could be much much worse for him.

Yep, like starting for our Cubs with the roster we are about to trot out there...

Toronto's one of the best cities in MLB.

It's one of the best cities in the world. Unless you really, really hate cold weather, there's not much to complain about.

Its more American than say San Diego,Houston, Miami or Los Angeles

Knobler just tweeted Ham Fighters are expected to accept bid right before Tuesday deadline. I guess this probably means we aren't going to hear anything until then now. Why the hell would they wait?

Is that racist? I can never tell.

Northside Blues is totally right. A city in a foreign country is definitely more American than cities in America.

It was a joke. Come on, it's always fun to pick on our neighbors to the north.

I found this particularly interesting from that article:

“He is making $6 million a year in Japan on the field, close to that off the field. So you are starting at $12 million a year over here. I would say five years for $75 million is about right.’’

I never really considered the possibility that Darvish could make more money staying in Japan, if he doesn't get a strong offer from the winning bidder. I kinda assumed he'd have very little leverage with whichever club wins the posting.

Any particular reason he'll stop making money off the field after leaving Japan?

It seems safe to assume whatever marketing dollars he's making from Japanese companies will decline sharply if he leaves for the US. I don't see him replacing those dollars here, either. What company in the States is going to throw big money at Yu Darvish? His image is worth squat here.

I'd bet that the assumption his Japanese marketing will dry up is completely false, though. He could stand to make more marketing money in Japan if he does well here. I'd bet that Ichiro has raked in marketing money from Japan during his time in the states.

The commercial endorsement offers are, not surprisingly, already coming in for Boston Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka. The Chunichi Sports, in its Dec. 28 edition, indicated there will be a Matsuzaka vs. Hideki Matsui TV ad campaign for Asahi Super Dry beer, starting in April.

The Dec. 31 Nikkan Sports front page said Matsuzaka will also be appearing in commercials for Dunkin' Donuts worldwide. You may have noticed at the Dec. 14 press conference in Boston, where the Matsuzaka signing was formally announced by the Red Sox, there was a huge depiction of the gaudy orange-and-pink DD logo behind the star pitcher.

I guess I could see that. Maybe disassociating from Nippon Ham will actually make Darvish stand out more as an individual star in Japan, which naturally would be beneficial for his marketing profile. It's certainly plausible.

I still don't see him being offered much in the way of endorsement opportunities here in the states, though. His Q scoreg would be zilch.
