Doesn't Epstein have a contract option due on Oct. 8th (Saturday)? Seems that would be much more of a pressing factor on getting this done quickly than Yom Kippur.

Where did you hear it was the 8th? I hadn't heard that, but it's kind of interesting if true.

It's a little academic, though, as they could just pick it up, and continue "trade" discussions if they wanted Epstein to leave/Epstein wanted to leave.

Yeah its been reported by multiple sources that his team option is due to be picked up on the 8th. I wish I could find a link for you.

"We have decided not to exercise Theo Epstein's contract extension" coming tomorrow.

That's what I am hoping for as well. As I said, if Epstein was staying, I think he would be part of that interview tomorrow. Not only that, I'm pretty sure it was Henry and Lucchino who set this interview up, not the other way around. If Theo is being retained, they announce it together with great fanfare.

Castro for Epstein? Did Rosenbloom actually waste time writing this as a possible scenarios?

Possible scenario? He wrote it like it was pure fact that if Epstein sign here it would be a part of a trade for Castro, with no sources or listed reasoning for why he is even saying this in the first place. It's kind of a weird article period.

Now, besides the most important fact that they are terrible journalists, look at these mugs. Seriously?

I jokingly mentioned trading Castro and Garza for Epstein a few pages back and people were all up in arms and some ridiculed the post. And I guess now you are hearing this from the real media. Granted Rosenbloom is not a great source for anything, but I even saw both of the above names mentioned in a Boston Globe article.

It will be interesting to see what they actually want for compensation.

Given that presumably in any situation where Epstein comes to the Cubs he also does not want to stay with the Red Sox, theres not much they can do about it unless they want to keep a guy who doesn't want to be there. They'll get a midlevel prospect or cash.

SoSH is an interesting place. There are a few smart posters, but man they have an ... interesting perspective.

Apparently the most likely scenario is that the Red Sox are going to make the playoffs at least 8 out of the next 10 years.

The question these goofballs should be asking is if Epstein were to come to a team that's already in shambles, would he want to do it if they were to give up their two best players? I think no. With Castro and Garza, he at least has two good building blocks to work with. Take those two away, and he has a solid catcher, a great set up man, and a bunch of junk.

They aren't asking these questions because they are just saying stupid [expletive] to get people to read what they have to say. Call it a relic of a dying industry that instead of working hard and tracking down good stories, they publish crap like that. There is no way this team is giving up either of those guys for a GM.

One club official laughed at the idea of giving Starlin Castro to the Boston Red Sox as compensation, and sources made it sound like the Cubs haven’t seriously discussed a list of players to make available, if that’s even where this is heading.

WEEI, the Boston radio station, has been promoting an interview with Red Sox principal owner John Henry and team president Larry Lucchino scheduled for Friday morning. They will have to address the Epstein rumors.

I honestly don't see us giving them quality talent for Epstein. Epstein seems to want a new opportunity at some point, and I think the Red Sox front office knows that. At best, I think we give them some 2nd tier talent, or more likely, eat a bad contract of theirs, if Epstein does end up coming here.

I could see the Cubs giving the Sox a fringe prospect and taking back John Lackey as compensation. Or just sending cash instead of taking back a bad contract. In any event, I think this talk about having to sacrifice our top talent for the right to sign Epstein is just alarmist goofiness.

If the Yankees lose tonight, which I probably just jinxed, will we get a couple of weeks of Cashman talk and speculation? I'm bored of this Epstein stuff.

I just don't see any real reason for Epstein to leave Boston right now...Even if you want to think he's willing to relocate his young family, that he needs new challenges, and that he wants desperately to be a baseball legend who took both major "cursed" franchises and turned them around...why the heckaroo would he leave Boston immediately after a team he's very responsible for just collapsed like that? That's straight up embarrassing, and to run from it from it right after? It makes me not want to buy the hype. I might even go as far as saying I PREFER Cherington, but I won't.
