On the Rasmus rumors..the Cardinals need SP and I don't know if they can take on a big salary like Jackson and Thorton's. Plus, they are not letting Rasmus go for a rental. I'm surprised they wouldn't be interested in getting a dependable SS.

Perception becomes reality. CPatt, Jacque Jones, Bradley, etc.. didn't learn that having a smile on your face as you walk back to the dugout after striking out for the 100th time with men on base, the fans are not going to like it. It does look like it didn't bother them and it's an attitude we're seeing far too often with players. To much is given, much is expected.

Yet these same fans are the ones who rip on Zambrano for showing emotion, and being a "hothead". Which is it? Is it good to show emotion or is it not?

Yep, Bradley's problem was that he never showed any emotion.

I ain't accusing you of anything, but what did Patterson, Jacque Jones and Bradley all have in common?

I'm as guilty as anyone for complaining about those guys at times (though Bradley not so much, he wasn't even that bad here!) but you gotta connect the dots on significant portions of the fanbase and why they'd be more likely to have problems with those guys 'attitudes'.

Anyway, it would be beautiful for the Cardinals to pull a poor management move like they are set to do and trade Rasmus because Tony La Russa has jerkface.

Oooh...ooooh....oooooh....I know this. They were all Chicago Cubs outfielders of the '00s. What do I win?

I think that bunting and generally finding stupid old-timey ways to make outs and crash into walls are favored by racists. I can't prove this, however.

Another reason you all don't want Rasmus: he has wall-shyness (I believe Andy Van Slyke created this term).

I, for one, have no room on my team for a guy who values self-preservation over attempting low-percentage outs.

We need more guys who embrace the wall instead of fearing it. We don't need guys like Rasmus, we need guys like Rick Ankiel. He may not be great, but he loves that wall.

We need more of that than actual ability, especially when winning is important. Sure, it may nearly kill you, but looking like you care is what wins ball games.

And LaRussa jumps in with these Gems

Continuing an ongoing saga, Cardinals manager Tony La Russa told a St. Louis television station on Tuesday that outfielder Colby Rasmus "doesn't listen" to the team's coaches. It's the latest development in a lengthy series for the third-year center fielder, whose name has long swirled in trade rumors.

At the end, however, La Russa was asked whether Rasmus is listening and responded tartly. "Well, he's listening to somebody," the manager said. Asked whether Rasmus is listening to the Cardinals' coaches, he was more direct. "No, he doesn't listen to the Cardinal coaches much now, and that's why he gets in these funks, in my opinion," La Russa said. "If he would just stay with [basically] what they teach, he would have ... but I actually feel concern for him, because he hears it from so many places, he's got to be confused."

I get why Rasmus requested a trade last year with a douche of a coach like this.

I don't remember seeing CPatt...or any of those guys, really, smiling all the time (or any more than most players). I never cared for JJ as a player, but I don't remember feeling like he wasn't trying or didn't care. He just wasn't terribly efficient, given the other options available (and he couldn't throw very far). Bradley sure as hell cared, like psycho-level cared.

But if they were all happy-go-lucky, smiling all the time, it probably wasn't the strikeouts. It was probably the death threats. Those are real heart-warmers.

I guess when you pick 3 black players and say they have an attitude and say that a couple latin players are lazy, all without any basis in reality, well...perception becomes reality.

Jays Close To Deal For Jackson; Rasmus Involved?

By Tim Dierkes [July 27 at 10:37am CST]

10:37am: Jackson is now being told a trade is official, tweets Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

10:30am: The Cardinals continue to talk about Rasmus deals with the Blue Jays and other teams, tweets ESPN's Buster Olney, and the outfielder appears to be "very much available."

10:09am: Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweets that this deal is close but not complete, because the money exchange requires approval and the Jays are trying to spin Jackson to another team. That team may be the Cardinals, based on tweets from Joe Strauss, Jon Heyman, and Sherman. Sherman believes the Cardinals could also get a reliever and Colby Rasmus may be involved, but nothing is official. The Blue Jays have interest in Rasmus, tweets Morosi.

Meanwhile Alejandro De Aza is starting in center field for the White Sox this afternoon, necessitating a 25-man roster move.

9:21am: The White Sox are in serious talks for a deal that would send starter Edwin Jackson and third baseman Mark Teahen to the Blue Jays for reliever Jason Frasor and a prospect, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Rosenthal's colleague Jon Paul Morosi says this deal is close and money could be involved. The rumor was first reported ten hours ago on Twitter by a fellow named Doug Seyller.

The Jays' motivation for renting Jackson for two months and taking on a bad contract in Teahen is unclear. There doesn't appear to be a draft pick angle, as both Jackson and Frasor project as Type Bs. Perhaps Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos is considering flipping Jackson to a contender.

The White Sox were known to be seeking bullpen help, and Frasor has a club option for next year. The Sox could also subtract a reliever, as Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that they're talking to the Cardinals about Matt Thornton. Maybe Kenny Williams' goal in the Jackson trade is to shed the $9.7MM left on the contracts of the two veterans, though we need to see the quality of the prospect involved. Sox pitchers John Danks and Gavin Floyd are also on the market, according to Rosenthal. The White Sox are currently 4.5 games out in the AL Central with another game against the Tigers tonight.

Looks like the deal is going to happen. Jackson, Rasmus, Tehan, and Frasor appear to be involved, but cant quite figure out who goes where. Jackson and Frasor both make sense for The Cards. Rasmus could fit in with either the Jays or Sox, and I think Tehans just a salary dump.

Posted
10:44am: Money appears to be the only holdup in a trade that would send Jackson to the Cardinals and Rasmus to the Blue Jays, tweets Rosenthal.

Clears it up a bit. Sox probably just get the salary of Tehan off the books and a few prospects. Maybe Frasor.

Jays Acquire Jackson; Rasmus Involved?

By Tim Dierkes [July 27 at 10:44am CST]

10:44am: Money appears to be the only holdup in a trade that would send Jackson to the Cardinals and Rasmus to the Blue Jays, tweets Rosenthal. An exchange of more than $1MM awaits approval, and of course the Cards will get more than just Jackson for Rasmus.

Jackson and Teahen are going to Toronto, tweets MLB.com's Scott Merkin. Heyman tweets that the two-team deal is done.

OK, then from what I can gather, Jackson and Teahen are going to Toronto for Frasor and prospect(s).

Toronto will then flip Jackson and probably more to the Cards for Rasmus.

It makes much more sense than the earlier reported Jackson and Teahen for Frasor+prospects trade.

Looks like the 1st part is a done deal

Blue Jays Acquire Edwin Jackson, Teahen For Frasor, Stewart

By Tim Dierkes [July 27 at 11:01am CST]

The Blue Jays acquired starter Edwin Jackson and third baseman Mark Teahen from the White Sox for reliever Jason Frasor and Zach Stewart, tweets Mark Gonzalez of the Chicago Tribune. The deal also includes a cash exchange of more than $1MM.

Trades are commonplace for Jackson, who was dealt for the fifth time in his career. The surprising part is that the Blue Jays, 11 games out in the wild card, acquired the impending free agent. Speculation is that Jackson may be flipped, possibly to the Cardinals. Jackson, 27, has a 3.92 ERA, 7.2 K/9, 2.9 BB/9, 0.59 HR/9 and 46.9% groundball rate in 121 2/3 innings this season, making him one of the better starters available. The Scott Boras client will head to free agency after the season most likely as a Type B. He has about $2.9MM remaining on his contract this year.

Teahen is regarded as a salary dump, with almost $7.2MM remaining on his contract through 2012. The 29-year-old is hitting .203/.277/.305 in 130 plate appearances this year, and is another example of Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos taking on a bad contract to get a deal done. It was reported yesterday that White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf wanted to trim payroll.

Frasor, the Blue Jays' franchise leader in appearances with 455, has a 2.98 ERA, 7.8 K/9, 3.2 BB/9, 0.85 HR/9, and 40.2% groundball rate this year. The 33-year-old Oak Forest, Illinois native has about $1.2MM remaining on his contract this year, plus a $3.75MM club option for 2012. If the option is declined, Frasor will likely be a Type B free agent. He's a fine addition to any team's bullpen, though the Sox already rank third in the AL with a 3.33 bullpen ERA.

Looks like this deal could work ou for everyone

Jays get Rasmus, a guy who could be huge in the future.

Cards get a very solid starting pitcher and some prospects

Sox bolster an already very good bullpen and they dump some salary on Teahen.

if those goes through, Edwin Jackson will have been traded for Colby Rasmus, Zach Stewart, Daniel Hudson, Matt Joyce, Max Scherzer, and (all-star) Danys Baez

Something tells me that Edwin Jackson will take less money in exchange for a no-trade clause as soon as he finally becomes a free agent. My god, I hope the guy hasn't bought houses everywhere he's moved. Really a weird situation, he's a good player and I haven't heard about any clubhouse problems with him, yet he continues to get passed around like a porn star at a keg party.

Edwin Jackson is not that good. I'm shocked at how much value people attach to him. He pitched extremely well for 196.2 innings in his career (2.79 ERA first half of 2009 + White Sox stint in 2010). He's got a 4.97 ERA in the other 802 innings he's pitched in his career. I've never seen someone so overvalued as Edwin Jackson

I'm pretty sure he's not overvalued as he's been on like 10 teams in 5 years. Then again, he's been traded for some awfully good players.

This. It seems like everyone wants him on their team except the team that has him. I'm sure the Cards will deal him next year to someone like the Twins for Aaron Hicks or something
