I think looking at the poor trade value or just being unable to trade some of them speaks volumes of Jim Hendry's tenure. It is one thing to have some things not work or go wrong. But to completely paint this team into the depressing corner that we are in is sad.

The Yankees are "desperate" for a lefty reliever, according to Joel Sherman of the NY Post. Let's let them take Grabow off our hands. That would be a good start.

they never said it had to be a good lefty reliever

Marshall for Montero?

My sarcasm detectors on the fritz. Should this be green font?

Yea was a joke. But hey, if they are desparate why not float the idea?

I just saw Buster Olnley say that if Kerry Wood were willing to waive his no trade clause, the Diamondbacks might be a destination. I'm in full sell mode at this point. What type of prospect would he garner?

I don't think there's any way that Hendry deals Wood this year unless Kerry requests it.

Kerry deserved a no trade clause. That contract was friendly enough for the Cubs. Olnley essentially said that Kerry might be willing to go to a winner. I know he wants to be in Chicago but I have to wonder if that might change due to this train wreck.

I think he might be willing to waive it with the understanding that he'll still have a position in the Cubs' organization after retirement. I was under the impression that his return to the Cubs was largely based on his desire to be part of the organization in some capacity after his playing days are over. I know there's been some speculation of an eventual broadcasting position.

He left a good bit of money on the table to come home to Chicago, I can understand why he'd want assurances he'd stay there.

Now that the club is 10 games under, I have to wonder who is off limits for a trade.

My absolutey no: Castro

Would have to be a really good trade: Marmol, Soto, Brett Jackson, McNutt, Cashner (would be selling too low but with high ceiling)

If you're talking about a deadline deal, then throw everyone on your second list except Marmol up there with Castro. In fact, I'd try pretty hard to trade Marmol to see if you can get a nice piece for him, as the market for a top shelf closer may have more urgency at the deadline.

I agree with that. I would hate to lose Marmol but he might be our most valuable trading piece (besides Castro). I guess I should've clarified this as deadline deals. You wouldn't part with Soto? I like him too but I guess I would be ok with a good deal, say to maybe the Giants.

If the Cubs got a good offer I'd be all for moving Soto. The Cubs most likely aren't competing until 2013. By that time he's going to be 30 and making some decent money.

I can't see a Soto deal making sense for us unless he OPSes 1.200 for 6 weeks leading up to the deadline or something.

I bet Marshall would be a popular trade target but I don't know how great a return we'd get for a set up man.

And we'll be competing against San Diego, Pitt, and the Twins, all of whom have quality bullpen arms they'll be looking to sell.

Cot's doesn't have anything about a NTC for Wood.

Wood left some serious money on the table to come back here. He's probably here to stay(and I mean longer than just this year). If he asks to be dealt, that's one thing, but I wouldn't even broach the subject with him. If he brings it up, fine, if not, leave it alone. You could run the risk of pissing him off and the probable discount he'd continue to give us would probably be gone.
