Angelo plays the FA/Trade market about as well as any other GM. Cutler, Muhommed, Tait, Peppers, Taylor

granted last year they went all out and made a big splash, he has consistently used the FA market. I dont think there is any other reason to think he wouldn't this year, other then the CBA junk.

Not sure why Muhammed and Taylor are on your list. Moose was ok but nowhere near the WR we thought we were getting from Carolina and showed up both Orton and Grossman when they were playing poorly/didn't get him the ball enough. Taylor spent most of the year dodging speculation that he was helping the Vikings by sabotaging the Bears.

I would add Rueben Brown to the good FA signings. He was past his prime but he still had some really solid years with the Bears. I think Angelo thought he was getting another Brown when he signed Pace before last year, but that definitely didn't work out.

Moose and Taylor were big name signings. That they didn't work out isn't really the point. The point is that Angelo isn't afraid to spend money in FA.

exactly, I only point them all out to make the point that Angelo uses that part of the talent pool to a significant degree, at least enough to assume we could go after good offensive lineman.

Angelo signed Thomas Jones too, right?

He also traded him for what, a 5th round draft choice?

Well fine, but the discussion is about Angelo and his free agent signings. The point being that he's signed some good FA's in seasons past.

It says he "plays the FA/Trade market about as well as any other GM."

If you followed the conversation prior to that, it was meant in regard to bringing people in.

And like UM pointed out, it wasn't Jones for a 5th.

It seems to me that what the Bears need are OL, a more prototypical, #1-type WR and maybe a good corner. I'd like to see a power RB to complement Forte as well. Taylor is just redundant.

Unless you get a really good corner, I'd say a DT is higher on the totem pole.

I'm drafting OG's and DT's most likely, if I'm Angelo, with my 1st 2 picks. Unless I'm totally convinced that there is a LT available at 29 that's going to start for us and be productive immediately. Maybe take a chance on a WR or CB in round 4, then go BPA after that.

I really want WR addressed bigtime, but I think our best shot is taking whichever one of Edwards or Holmes the Jets decide not to keep. Either would be a huge upgrade for us and I doubt either of them break the bank, to where we couldn't add some other complementary players as well.

I'd love to get V-Jax, but think it's a pipedream, same with Sidney Rice. Perfect offseason for me is Holmes/Edwards, a starting OG thru FA, and a CB that is cut after June 1st that slides down the pay scale some then draft a LT that can start(unlikely one will be there, but hoping anyway). followed by a DT in the 2nd, and another OG in the 3rd.

who would that FA WR be, James Jones? Sidney Rice? Vincent Jackson?

Jones drops everything, Rice will get resigned by MN, Jackson is just old. It really would be nice to have a guy like Aroushmado play more this past season to see what he would be like. alas.

I'm actually not convinced Rice will re-sign in Minny. But that might be wishful thinking.

I just don't think there's any way to really predict what will happen until we know how the CBA works out. From what I've read, it's possible that guys in his situation will be restricted FA's.

I don't think he's dying to stay in Minnesota like Greenway and wouldn't be surprised if he leaves. Whether it's the Vikings or someone else, I think you have to be really careful about giving him a huge contract. I love him but he's had 1 good season out of 4 and that came when Favre was playing as well as any QB in the league with the best RB in the game and a really solid slot guy and TE.

It also depends on how people think he'll recover from the hip injury. He wasn't the same guy this year when he came back. Whether that's because he came back too soon or a sign of things to come, who knows.

Even with all the drops, I don't think we're going to part ways with Jones. He's damn good for a #4 wideout. He's easily one of the more frustrating players I can remember watching, but he makes some incredible catches as well like the one he had last week and another one earlier in the season against Minnesota.

is he a UFA or a RFA? and if he is a UFA, what would keep him in GB as a #4 as opposed to going to Chicago as a #1?

According to FO's numbers, 15 of Cutler's INTs this year were targeting (or at least in the general direction, so attributed to target) Knox. Curious how much of that was Knox, and how much of it was Cutler and Knox just happening to be the #1 target.

I believe he's restricted, which is why I don't think he's going anywhere.

I think Knox is a damn good 3. He's fast as hell and has the ability to stretch the field. That's the good. But, he's sloppy as hell running routes at times. Cuts routes off too quickly on occasion and isn't agressive at all in playing WR in a defensive way when the time is needed. That's why he's a legit 3, although he's been put into the 1 role on our team. I'd venture to say at least half the INT's Cutler through his way were his fault, if not more.

It's really funny if you look at it seriously: The Bears finally go out and get themselves a franchise QB. And instead of giving him every chance to succeed, by giving him a good O-Line(we're bottom 10ish here) and a solid set of receivers(probably bottom 5) we sit and watch yesterday's game(and the previous 32 games that Cutler has played for us) and expect to see him do everything on his own, I guess.......

I like Knox, but I truly hope he's not our 1 heading into next year.

And and then when he can't do it, he gets killed in the press and by the meatballs/heads out there that think the QB is the only person that affects the passing game.
