I'd be fine with the defense coming back basically as is sans Jennings and they should be able to pull that off. Of course they have to invest some in getting the defense younger through the draft. They won't get as lucky with injuries next year. They need to invest heavily on offense, as the Bears can't do crap against that Packers D. 2 starting caliber O-lineman and a #1 WR minimum. I would love to see an OT in the 1st and an OG in the 2nd while signing one of the FA WR's. Draft CB/DT in the 3rd and 4th rounds then go offense/special teams for the rest.

Think Angelo can manage two starting caliber O-lineman with his trade 1st and 2nd round picks for mutliple 3rd rounders MO?

No need to... I said it earlier in the thread (actually it might be in 2011 NFL Draft thread where I said, if it's there, I'll post it here...) that if Angelo trade his 1st round pick, he can get a 2nd and 3rd round pick for it so he would have 2 picks in the 2nd and 3rd round each. He might have to throw in a 6th round pick or something to make the numbers works maybe...

*EDIT* It was in the 2011 NFL Draft Thread pg. 18. here you go...

"Just curious from everyone... Would you be ok if Angelo traded his 1st round pick for say the 46th and 78th pick (both are 14th pick in the 2nd and 3rd round). So Bears wouldn't have a 1st round pick, but they would have the 14th/29th picks in the 2nd and 3rd round though? I would be fine with that IMO considering you would get an extra pick. 29th pick is worth 640 points so any 2 combo picks equal to 640 would work. 38th (6th pick of the 2nd round) and 95th (31st pick of the 3rd round) would work as well. If you want pick 33-37, you would have to have a 4th round pick instead of a 3rd...

I'm not sure on exactly how deep this draft is in terms of the Bears needs are... I've been reading a few mocks and articles about the prospects, but still don't know much. That's why I'm asking about this. If someone already said something about this, let me know and I'll go back in the thread and find it... Just wondering if you guys think it would be worth trading down for the 1st round pick."

*EDIT* You can also trade that 1st round pick for 3 3rd round picks like 66th/74th/86th pick. The questions are: Can you find a team who is willing to trade like that? Is there any teams that have picks where it can work out nicely? Would you have to throw in a 5th-7th round pick (maybe even 4th round) to make it work? Is it worth trading down this year to gain more picks?

I wonder how much of an impact Gaines Adams would have had on this team. I honestly don't know how good he was, but it seemed like he had a lot of potential.

Any chance of us drafting Casey Matthews in the 2nd round?

There's a very good chance the Bears could draft him in the 2nd, as no other team in their right mind would.

Pass on Casey Matthews in the 2nd round.

I'd really like Braylon Edwards or Sidney Rice either one, although I'd prefer Rice. This would allow us to draft OL in the first two rounds and then grab another receiver later on instead of having to use an early pick on one.

We probably wouldn't have signed Peppers if Gaines Adams hadn't died.

Why? Because we have a project that hasn't panned out in the pros in three years?

Pretty sure they were prepared to go into the season with Adams, Idonije, Brown and Anderson... what happened to Gaines completely threw a wrench into things.

Some good stuff in that article. Glad we're looking at FA WR's for sure. I like Webb here more than most do, I think.......But trusting him on the left side? Not sure I can get behind that one honestly. I like the idea of spending 2 of the top 3 picks there, Angelo is due to get it right at some point. As for Forte, he's criminally underpaid, but I get what the Bears appear to be doing. That said, if there was a shot at getting him to give you a team friendly deal, it'd be now. With a solid year next year, he's going to make us pay up big.

Yeah I'd be cool with moving Garza to center.

Rather that than bringing back Kreutz. That article alludes to signing a FA guard and veteran WR. So, hopefully that would mean not re-signing Kreutz and drafting a guy early for the other guard spot for cheaper.

Heh, yeah. At some point the blind squirrel factor's got to kick in.

Not real excited about Roy Williams. Hope that's just Mullin hypothesizing.

Yeah, Roy Williams would be a horrible idea. He's not a terrible player, but it would be similar to Muhsin Muhammad in that he has very little upside left to do anything more than the run of the mill WR numbers.

And, just to be a meatball for a moment, I hate his attitude. I mean, I'd deal with it if he was some awesome receiver, but I don't see that.

If we're going to spend money in FA on a WR, the only guys that truly can make a difference for us more than a 2nd round pick possibly could are V-Jax, Rice, Holmes, Edwards, and POSSIBLY James Jones and Mike Sims Walker.

If we don't get one of those 6(hopefully 1 of the first 4) then just put that money into either line or defensive backfield and draft a guy early on.

That said, I really want WR addressed through FA.
