If it's 2 or under, I stand behind the 1st thing I said. Which was hold onto him, because you don't know what you're going to find with a late round pick or undrafted FA and you don't want to open up another hole to begin with, if it's not necessary.

If Tommie Harris won't restructure, fine, cut him. But, that's 5 mill or so and at a position that's already considered an area of need, with or without him. We don't have a need at RB if we don't cut Taylor, if you ask me. Send him back out there next year and see if he does a little better.

considering Taylors salary next year will be in the $5mil range for a back up RB, you cut him. again, a back up position is not a hole when your starter is pretty good. stop the monetary bleeding, put that money towards Forte or FA, and play either Bell or a UFA.

Is that true? If the Bears have already paid him 6 mill in year 1, is his cap number really 5 mill for 2011?

No, it isn't. It probably is between 1.75 and 2.

i don't even think it's that much. he's cheap and experienced and had a down year, i still think we keep him.

At any rate I guess everyone will be holding out until they find out the labor situation. At least there won't be long to wait.

Is it really going to come down to a fight over 16 vs. 18 games, or is there more to it than that?

I think there's a lot more to it than just a fight over the length of the season. The owners want the players to roll back the percent of revenue they currently get.

Yeah, there's a lot to it. Also the owners want to severely limit the rookie salaries.

Ahh yes, the slotting of rookie salaries.

I'll need to read up on all the angles of this thing. I've tried to ignore it while the season was going on.

the bears have the lowest total salary in the north, i find it strange that we're looking to cut. sign mankins, draft pouncey, shift williams back to LT and use omiyale as your swing. and if you have enough cash left, sign a WR.

Even if the Bears aren't going to spend a lot in FA, it doesn't make any sense to pay Taylor 4 million dollars to do the job a 4th rounder could do for a third of the price.

I agree though, I'd hope they are at least willing to spend what the other guys in the division are spending. Funny how we have the lowest after all the crap about our FA spending last spring.

drop williams. draft Derek Sherrod.

also, that Illinois DT looks like he's going to go upper/mid rd 1

I really do not want to see them bow out of the FA WR class. Hester isn't cutting it and we've seen the result of forcing the ball in to Knox. There are too many upgrades that will be sitting out there.

Not only is Hester not cutting it, he's taking the number of snaps that a 3rd or 4th WR would take. I'm sure the Bears don't see him as a number 1 or 2 receiver at this point, hence the reason they let him take less snaps to concentrate on returning this year

Brad Biggs thinks the Bears will not cut Chester Taylor.

Yeah and his reasoning makes a lot of sense. Taylor will only make $1.25m for 2011. He's already been paid his big money for 2010. You'll save a negligible amount of money cutting him.

Damnit. I've been making mocks w/ Liuget to the Bears for months now. He's my favorite prospect in the draft. I think the Bears trade down anyway. Hopefully they can still get 2 of a good OL, DT, WR, or CB in the 1st 2 rounds.

Walterfootball's new mock today has Liuget going to the Chargers at 18.

I think the Bears will draft a LG early and just try Williams/Omiyale at LT again. I don't see any changes with Kreutz/Garza/Webb for at least 1 more year. Walterfootball has Pouncey in the 1st and a LT project in the 4th. Wouldn't surprise me at all, and it gives angelo's 1st round pick one more chance to stick.

Personally I'm warm to the idea of drafting Costanzo in the 1st and trying to lock down our LT position long term. DT in the 2nd and LG in the 3rd. And this is still dependent to me on the Bears grabbing a WR in FA.

The stuff I read has said the Bears are going to give Webb at shot at LT. And it looks like Omiyale (who is a solid run blocker) and Williams will compete at RT. Have also read that having to play GBs pass rush at least 2 times per year, they don't want a couple rookie OL in there. I think they bring in at least 1 FA on the OL, probably in the LG spot. My own guess says they also are about 50/50 on whether they bring back Kreutz or move Garza over to C. I don't think Kreutz and Garza are both back.

That's what I have seen too. Obviously there's a ton of time for things to change between now and whenever the NFL decides they want to play football again.

Webb and Omiyale as the tackles still just switching sides...I don't know. I do have confidence in Tice. If they move Garza to C and strongly upgrade the G positions in FA and the draft then it seems as good a solution to try as any.

Interesting fact from Brad Biggs' positional breakdowns...

Daniel Manning and Chris Harris are the first Bears safties to start all 16 games in a season since Mike Brown and Tony Parrish in 2001.
