Big Ben holds local rape clinics and is called a hero.

Cutler won't gut out a blown out knee and is blasted as a gutless coward.

That's the world we live in.

Kind of an easy position to take when you just fabricate the part about Big Ben being regarded as a hero out of thin air. There may be a few dopes out there who talk (somewhat correctly) about how Big Ben just wins games or whatever but pretty much everyone considers him a creep don't they?

And there was definitely a part during the trophy presentation yesterday where the crowd was very, very hesitant to give him any sort of ovation when Tomlin or someone handed him the AFC championship trophy. Even Steelers fans know he's a big time creep.

Well, maybe it's just the Steelers fans that I know. There's two of them -- they both just don't want his off-field issues brought up anymore, because they feel like it has been dealt with and it's over with. They want to focus only on the play on the field.

Personally, I won't buy it until next offseason is over with, but whatever.

If he goes for awhile and shows he has put it behind him, I'm willing to let it go. Not this season though. I think it's a pretty big issue, kind of similar to when Ray Lewis played in the Super Bowl after his ordeal.

I assumed he was referring to the sportsnation poll reference earlier.

I'm assuming Hester is the odd man out from the receiver corps. I could see him being used sparingly in 4 receiver sets, but I'd just like to see him get moved back into the role of returning kicks and punts where he consistently generates excellent field position for the offense. I'd much rather see Vincent Jackson, Earl Bennett and Johnny Knox get the playing time.

Hanie seems like a lock to back up for Cutler now with the assumption Cutler will be ready by training camp.

Omiyale seems like a decent enough guy as a back up, but I wouldn't mind drafting or signing a LT and a RT. Move Webb to RG. Williams and Webb is enough meat to help out the aging Kruetz in the middle. Webb just doesn't have the foot speed to match up with defensive ends/outside linebackers.

Cutler is owed significant protection this offseason, and Angelo will be hearing exactly that from the entire offensive coaching staff, and Cutler himself. He also needs a weapon who can get separation from the defensive backs. A guy who commands a double team and will make you pay if you don't.

They're paying Hester an awful lot of money to be just a returner though. But hey...I guess that's the price of having a historically good return man.

you are, but lets face it, he kind of sets the precedent for what a really good returner should be paid. No one has ever been better.

Sets the president? That's a new one.

I (tonight) had to argue vehemently with two or three people that 1) Caleb Hanie should in fact NOT be our starting QB in 2011, 2) We should NOT draft a QB with our first pick because we "can't count on Cutler anymore". These are people that religiously watch every game from beginning to end, and they apparently honestly believe Hanie > Cutler. You reach a point where you wonder if the stupidity and ignorance of the argument justifies your effort and time any more. Idiots.

I actually heard "I liked Caleb Hanie's post game interview, it showed he is a better leader and therefore better QB than Jay Cutler who can't even talk to people."

My roomie is a big Chargers fan and is of the opinion that they'll likely franchise Jackson. It sounds like Malcolm Floyd will be an FA though.

Get ready for World War III if that happens. Jackson missed a significant amount of the first half of the season holding out for a big contract, then made league minimum when the Chargers refused to pay him. He then missed 2 or 3 more games by suspension from the Chargers for a second DUI and getting pulled over several times for playing his stereo too loud in his vehicle. The team hates his attitude, and I'll be shocked if they want him back anymore than he wants to return.

I guess Lovie wants Tommie back:

I wonder what kind of contract he would get. I hope not big.

Lets see what happens as the offseason gets underway. Jerry makes those decisions. I'm sure Lovie gets a lot of input, but I don't think Lovie really has to worry about payroll the same way Jerry does.

Lovie tends to get what Lovie wants.

With the way Tommie finished the season, I wouldnt mind giving him a short incentive laden contract to see if he is for real. Even at 90% of 2005 Tommie, he would be the best interior DL we currently have.

The problem is that Tommie is still under contract. He's due a $2.5 million roster bonus in June.

o rly

all I knew about was his $2.5 salary next year.

This is from a Dan Pompei article last week:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/ct-spt-0119-pompei-bears-chicago--20110118,0,2269375.column

In June, the team owes him a $2.5 million roster bonus, and his 2011 total compensation could be near $5 million.

Do we have any idea at what kind of a spending budget the Bears have this offseason? I'm curious as to if they could even afford the salary someone like Jackson is going to demand.

Nobody even knows if the salary cap will be the same until there's a new CBA. So...no.

Where were we in regards to the old cap?
