Former Notre Dame defensive coordinator Corwin Brown is hospitalized with a self-inflicted gunshot after a 7-hour standoff following a domestic dispute.

Hahahaha. Hope the big 12 kicks a&m out.

I don't think today's announcement really means anything. It seems more like a "we're interested and aTm's interested, now everyone needs to get their legal ducks in a row to make this actually happen."

Somebody gets it.

If this is going to happen, the SEC needs to find another team to join the league along with Texas A&M. Florida State certainly would have fit that bill, but the Seminoles have no real motivation to make the move. If there is still no deal by October 1, then that Arkansas-Texas A&M matchup becomes a little more heated I think.

The SEC will go with 13 teams in 2012 if necessary.

By the way, that MS Paint post is nails. Very funny.

Bad news for Mizzou:

Dave Matter of the Columbia Tribune tweets that lineman Elvis Fisher “clutched [his] left knee during 1 on 1 pass rush drill vs Michael Sam. Pretty obvious he was in serious pain, was helped off field.”

“He’s got a very serious knee injury,” Pinkel said. “It’s very serious. We’ll know more about it … and he’s probably getting an MRI as we’re talking right now. But it’s very significant.”

Yeah, Fisher's started the last 40 games at LT. Just saw it's a ruptured patella tendon and his season is over. Silver lining is that he'll get another year, but a real bummer for this year's team.

A&M Board of Regents meeting has been pushed up to Monday.

A day before the House of Rep committee meeting that has no powers?

This House committee meeting has been cancelled. Word is that the head of the committee decided the political pressure he was getting wasn't worth it. Our BOR meeting is still happening. Once that is over we will be able (at some point in the near future) to notify the Big 12 that we are leaving and then ask the SEC for membership. At that point, an official vote will be taken to add us.

Miami could be in some serious trouble

http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/caneswatch/2011/08/15/report-ncaa-investigating-claims-by-former-um-booster/

NCAA investigators are expected on UM’s campus today to discuss allegations made by an imprisoned, former booster against the school’s football program, InsidetheU.com reported.

Nevin Shapiro, who contributed $150,000 to the program and temporarily had a student lounge named after him, pleaded guilty last June to running a $930 million Ponzi scheme and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Shapiro reportedly is ready to release a tell-all book that will include the names of dozens of UM players who allegedly broke NCAA rules. Some of those expected to be named are current players

"It's not about giving money — it's about giving favors," Perez said of Shapiro's allegations. "It's giving suits, giving jewelry, paying for entertainment, letting them use his boat twice a week.

Perez said she hasn't tallied up the value of the alleged benefits to Miami players, specifically — Shapiro had to detail all of his financial dealings to federal investigators, which must have been a lot of fun for everyone — but "it's well over thousands of dollars. It took $2,000 just to fuel up the gas tank of the yacht at Riviera Club." She also claimed Shapiro has given NCAA snoops the names of "well over a dozen but less than 100" former 'Cane players who he says accepted gifts.

As for evidence, Perez said, "Absolutely. He has different photos, phone records, credit card statements and bills."

Speaking of teams in trouble, the main informant for the SI story about OSU and tattoos has finally decided to meet with the NCAA on Thursday and apparently has a bunch of photos/evidence he's bringing with him.

i think mississippi state should've been the klansman, but nobody cares about ms state.

why? Ole Miss is the one with the embarrassing racial history, not State.

i guess i wasn't thinking so much about history but current situation... my impression is that ole miss is a better school and is attended by students with wealthier backgrounds, while ms state is in a backwater town and is a bad school attended by poorer students.

Gotcha. That's generally a correct observation. State is Mississippi's A&M school so they have the School of Agriculture and Forestry, things like that. Ole Miss has the state's Law School, Med School, Pharmacy School, and a top 20 Accounting School. Plus, Starkville is a complete hell hole and is easily the worst SEC home-city. The students are cooler to hang out with though. A lot of spoiled aholes and bitches go to Ole Miss.

It's pretty stupid that we even have two SEC schools to begin with and then you throw Southern Miss in there. I think if we had a mega-school like LSU we'd be a perennial contender in most sports. Given that we have a tiny population whose talent is split between three schools, it's pretty impressive that the schools do as well as they do athletically.

i remember watching some espn saturday night game from starkville, and they always did some shots from notable places around campus and town. the first thing they showed from starkville was the state prison.
