As Aubrey Bloom of Gigem247 tweeted, this is the same website that reported A&M to the SEC was a done deal last year, and said as recently as a month ago that there was no chance that the Aggies would leave the Big 12.

Did EhDubya weigh in yet? I won't believe this is happening until he says so.

The guy over at Northwestern's Scout board is talking about Big Ten expansion again. He says there's talk of Texas and ND joining the Big Ten. He had credible info during the Nebraska thing.

so some anonymous poster on a northwestern board says nd will blindly follow texas into the big ten? I guess that settles that.

Not going to happen. The LHN contract with ESPN prevents them from being shown on any conference network. It's either keep the Big 12 alive or go independent at this point. The Big 10, SEC, and Pac 12 all have conference networks, right?

If you click the link, you'll see he's claiming that somehow LHN and the B10 network would co-exist.

Or the commissioners bending to get Texas into the league.

I really doubt Delaney would allow the LHN to continue in any way resembling its current format.

Well, the Big Ten Network can only show one game at a time, with a couple others on the alternative feeds. If the conference grew to 14 teams spread across that big a chunk of the US, it could make sense for a variety of reasons to have two networks covering it. If you think it terms of consolidation and synergies, there is a lot to be gained by many parties if such a merger occurred. Negotiations between ESPN, Fox, the Big Ten, the other Big Ten monster schools and Texas would be complicated, but it's not crazy to consider.

No chance it'd retain the name though. It'd have to become BTN2 or something.

Or TBTN

I can't imagine any scenario where a Texas-centric BTN is ok with Delaney, OSU, Michigan, or Penn State. I don't think the smaller schools would care for it either, but it doesn't even need to get that far.

Depends on how it's done though. The texas-centric version couldn't be all Texas all the time. It could air non-Texas games, as those fans start to care more and more about how the rest of the conference is doing. And Texas could play a few games on the normal BTN network. I don't know about the current distribution of the BTN in Texas, but I'd imagine it's limited. And I doubt Texas' network will be getting big play in big ten country anytime soon. You put the two of them together and the "family" of networks gets huge demand in both places, and it will grow in other regions. Texas and ND in a BTN grouping is going to make that network must have virtually everywhere but parts of the northwest.

In the southwest that network may only be called TBTN, while airing much of the same programming. A few Texas-centric aspects remain on that feed, but all the other schools get exposure as well.

right - it's not going to happen. ND isn't joining the big ten and texas isn't giving up it's network to join the big ten network (nor would the 2 networks coexist). it's far more likely to me that texas goes fb independent.

The SEC university presidents are meeting this Sunday. I assume they will be taking an official vote on extending an offer to A&M. That way our BOR can vote to go at their 8/22 meeting.

There's also a Texas House of Reps hearing on the 16th...

The House Committee on Higher Education will meet to discuss matters pertaining to higher education, including collegiate athletics.

Invited testimony only.

A source close to the situation — and there appear to be a lot of those in this saga — has told Aggie beat writer Brent Zwerneman that Beebe, in turn, told A&M that the Big 12 can survive without them.

They have no legislative powers whatsoever. The Texas legislature doesn't meet again until 2013 and can only be called into a special session by the governor. Gov. Rick Perry is an Aggie. 8 of the 9 members of that board have accepted political contributions (most of them have received multiple) from a PR firm that has been hired by UT and is heavily involved in lobbying.

I'm sure they can, as long as OU decides to stay. They've apparently already reached out to the Univeristy of Houston to replace us.

Did Beebe pause to take Deloss Dodds' nuts out of his mouth to say that, or did he just say it mid-hummer?

Does it matter who replaces A&M in the Longhorn Conference?

HAHAHAHA!

I think it matters if they really care about saving the conference long term. UH would just be a temporary replacement until the horns feel ready to go independent.

A&M Board of Regents meeting has been pushed up to Monday.

A day before the House of Rep committee meeting that has no powers?

B1G/SEC/Pac-n people, whaddaya think of Oklahoma in your conference?

I don't think it's happening with the B1G unless you bring Texas with you.

OU doesn't have the academic gravitas. Texas, on the hand, does. It would be interesting to see if Texas and OU would only do it if they could come together. It would force the B1G Presidents to make a hard choice.
