If the NFL institutes a stricter pay scale for rookie contracts, he's going to lose millions.

Or, if he gets hurt...

Well there's likely a lockout before the draft anyway, so even if came out, the rookie pay scale could still hurt him, right?

The lockout would start immediately after the draft, so the players would be selected but contracts wouldn't be negotiated until after the lockout ended is my understanding.

If I'm right, then the rookie contracts would be subject to the new CBA.

The lockout date I've heard is March 1. The draft is mid/late April, and thus, would likely be delayed until post-lockout, I'm presuming.

The draft is supposed to go on as scheduled. It is late April. 4/28-4/30

What I heard was that the CBA ends then, but they'll still finish up the 2010 NFL league season, which includes the draft. Couldn't find anything about it on NFL.com, but here's an excerpt from a Yahoo article from September.

If there’s a lockout, will there still be a draft next spring?

Yes, but it won’t be business as usual for the teams or for the players they select. With no CBA in place, teams won’t be able to sign players, and those post-draft minicamps will be non-existent. Also, in the absence of a CBA, the league’s ability to generate revenues from the new crop of big-name draftees will be limited. In other words, if you want to purchase one of those sweet new Jake Locker jerseys in the aftermath of his being drafted, you’ll have to buy one without his name on the back of it or wait until a new CBA is signed.

Well, a season-ending injury didn't hurt Sam Bradford's draft stock and Luck is a better prospect.

What if he loses a limb?

Another source that the draft will occur either way:

What will happen with the 2011 NFL Draft if there is a work stoppage? --Karl B.

There will be a 2011 Draft even in the event of a work stoppage. The expiring Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) requires it.

Jason Garrett is official. Where does John Fox go now?

Cleveland.

I believe that they're going to try to get the rookie scale up to include this year's draft as well. So I'm not really sure why people are claiming that he's going to lose $50 million in the process.

I don't think John Fox is from the Holmgren coaching tree, so he's out.

PFT:

Per Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, there is “increasing speculation” that Fox could jump from the Panthers to the Browns.

Making the speculation surprising is that Holmgren has never worked with Fox. But they share an agent — Bob LaMonte — and LaMonte could be once again trying to play NFL matchmaker, while at the same time getting Fox out of the final year of his contract in Carolina.

Wow, that's a bit of a change from the other day. Word was that Rams OC Pat Shurmur is a candidate so Holmgren would be able to have his say on how the team was coached.

Yeah, the Fox rumors surprised me as well, but they may be familiar with each other and Holmgren may like the way Fox does things, maybe.

Miami has not reported any minority interviews to NFL; Dolphins not in compliance with Rooney Rule and can't offer deal to Jim Harbaugh.

This is interesting, because as publicized as this deal is and as big as it is, no other coaching candidate is going to accept an interview since they know they'll have no chance. Would they?

Well I bet he's hoping it's his left arm.

This is why I hate the Rooney Rule.

It's not a good rule. There hasn't been anyone that benefited from this rule either, as every head coach that's been hired certainly was qualified with or without the rule in place. And in an instance like this, where Harbaugh is a high-profile "get", why you HAVE to interview anyone else seems redundant to me.

That said, the Fins know the rules and before pitching Harbaugh, they should have already made their "courtesy" interview. Of course, they also should have went ahead and fired their head coach before doing any of this stuff to begin with, so they get a big FAIL all around.

I'm pretty sure the Titans are going to have to waive Young. He's got a 4 mill roster bonus coming up in March and he can't be dealt until after February 17th as it is. My guess is most teams in need of a QB will be looking towards the draft at that point and looking at Young as a fallback option if they don't get their guy then.

I'd be stunned if they were able to trade him. With the declaration that he's gone either way, a team isn't going to give up a pick to ensure the Titans part with him. The only positive to trading for him is the security to know you've got him while you work out contract details. I don't think that will be enough, though, for a QB who may not even be a starter.

I fully expect he'll be cut unless a team really thinks it can fix him.

With as many teams as there are currently looking for a quarterback, I can definitely see one offering a trade to keep other teams out of the bidding. I don't know how much they'd get, but a trade is very doable, IMO.

You would think they would have someone on staff currently that they could just call up stairs to interview. Is James Saxon still around?

that's the rumor i had heard too, but then i didn't if that was trumped up because it was the steelers making the hire and the rule is from their owner.

Yes someone will. Leslie Frazier interviewed with the Seahawks last year after everyone was convinced Carroll was taking that job. Teams can always find someone who at least wants their name in that discussion. Even if everyone knows it's a trumped up deal you get practice for future interviews and I think it almost makes them sympathetic figures in the league.

Josh McDaniels is interviewing for the offensive coordinator job with the Vikings tomorrow. On the one hand I think he could be a hell of a hire and great to have for whoever the QB is going to be and especially the guy of the future. He and Frazier are so different though I wonder how well it would work.

I think Cleo Lemon's gonna be getting a minicamp invite

so if the dolphins interview, say, a black janitor for the head coach position, can they then hire harbaugh?

I think they can walk out the front door, grab the first black man they see, interview him, and hence satisfy the rule. Certainly there would be backlash from something like that but I've never seen anything more than just "you need to interview one minority candidate."
