They have a great shot at getting Luck next year if something crazy happens and he stays in college.

That might be a better scenario for them. If Luck stays in school, they could either trade the pick to try to recoup the second rounder they traded last year, or just take the top guy on their board, lose a bunch of games in 2011 and still end up with Luck for the future.

And they'd have a full year to see what they have in Clausen if they were smart.

It'd be great for them if they gave Clausen a full year, discovered he can be a good to very good NFL quarterback and then are able to trade the 1st pick in a year with Luck available and a rookie cap in place. They could get a ridiculous haul at that point.

If they find that out, they aren't going to have the #1 pick.

Two seasons in a row with a team that is bad enough to get the first draft pick...that sounds like a real hoot.

That's a good point. I was thinking the rest of the team could be bad enough to get the first pick, but if the rest of the team is that bad, Clausen wouldn't look as good.

The end result would be the positive, not the process. But as TT pointed out, my theory has holes in it.

Well, it's official soccer. Cable not returning to Oakland.

Now Al is free to hire an awesome coach, right?

When dew posted the following:

49ers requested permission to interview Raiders offensive coordinantor Hue Jackson for their head coach opening.

My first thought was that Cable would be fired quickly and Jackson named coach.

And guess what? That's exactly what happened.

A little strange that they gave Hue permission to talk with the 49ers then :-k

Not with the possibility of a new, more restrictive rookie pay schedule looming.

He's coming out.

He's also likely to lose his coach. I figured Luck's decision hinged on Harbaugh's.

I figured the Broncos would be in on Harbaugh.

I believe they were/are. Elway just took a position with them and was on the Stanford sidelines. I'm sure that was to woo Harbaugh.

That's what I had assumed, but I had never read anything indicating they were going after him.

There have been reports out there that Elway was planning to discuss the Bronco opening with Harbaugh after the game and that the Broncos were planning to interview Harbaugh. I don't know that him going there has ever been realistic though.

“I told him [Palmer] yesterday privately that it’s important to me that I will help him be the player that I know he is and I believe in him and he’s important to me,” Lewis said on Tuesday.

Get a room.

From everything I've read they are, but as a Detroit writer pointed out, it doesn't make much sense from Harbaugh's perspective. If they don't win, ownership and the fans are going to be much harder on the college coach with no NFL track record than the hero who returned home. Not only can he not pick his own QB but he's saddled with a total fan favorite who is a project and does not seem at all like the kind of guy Jim would choose.

For Andy:

The speculaton on Russ Grimm's candidacy for Panthers job can be shelved. He's been informed he's not a candidate.

Poor Russ. Seems he's never really wanted other than as an OLine coach.

Al may have to fight for Hue:

Hue Jackson did indeed interview with 49ers today. Lengthy. Went very well I'm told. Made a strong impression

It's going to be hilarious when Hue goes to the Niners. I'm actually half hoping it happens just because I'm sure it would piss Al Davis off.

I can't wait for the Raiders to revert back to their old ways and go 4-12 next year.

Any chance Al just decides to coach the team himself?

Are the Broncos really that attached to Tebow?

Tough to say, I guess it depends on Elway's opinion. I was out there for an open practice in Mile High last summer during camp and the Tebow love was crazy. It was like a cult deal. From what I've heard the fans are completely over the moon with him now and I think Bolen likes him a lot.
