McCarthy being fired was always just fan frustration, yes.

Sure, if they would have put up a 3-13 season then anything would be on the table. But they didn't. They struggled through an enormous number of injuries and still made it.

He's boneheaded sometimes, no question. But his job is secure right now.

Since everybody's waiting with bated breath – this from Mortensen:

All looks solid for Del Rio

They're like the team that the world forgot or something. It's like they play in the league, they actually win a fair number of games. Everyone tries their best to ignore them.

They need to move to a relevant market.

They don't have any tradition (other than entering the league with a bang) since they haven't been around that long and for the past decade they've been mediocre. AFC South fans definitely think about them, but they really are pretty forgotten elsewhere.

took me a few minutes to figure out where Del Rio was without using google

I'm guessing you aren't even close to alone, even among NFL fans.

And we don't think highly of them.

The Jaguars have actually always been my favorite AFC team.

For me at least, they seemed mildly interesting a few years ago when they had a couple of playoff seasons in a row and butted heads with the Steelers in a really good playoff game. Since then they've been pretty irrelevant in my mind.

Excellent point. I actually like Del Rio staying. With him, I think their ceiling is decent team that's no threat to crack the top two consistently (Indy/Ten).

Just purely going off memory and not looking it up (so I very well may be wrong), they started red hot with Brunell, but then began to slide after the shellacking they took from the Titans in the AFC championship game in 99. Brunell started getting old after that and they began to drop off. The decline may have been later, but that's the latest I remember them being a legitimately good team.

I'm a bit disappointed about Mangini, but if it gets Cleveland Gruden or Holmgren, I'll quickly get over it.

It's looking more like John Fox or Marty Mornhiweg, which may not be an upgrade, but their philosophies will mesh more with Holmgren's.

am I the only one who kept thinking Frazier looked like this guy during the Monday night game vs Chicago?:

I suppose you think they all look alike.

It's a move to the status quo, which seems odd to me. They need to make a splash, do something to make people care.

Or just move to LA, which is what they really should be doing.

Is Skyballer anywhere to be found?

Definitely an oddity. You have a connection to Jacksonville, or just fall for them when they entered the league?

When I was a kid I had an affection for expansion teams for whatever reason. I actually liked the Marlins (among other teams) before I became committed to the Cubs but that is not the case anymore.

Well Luck looked awesome again against a really good defensive coaching staff and team who had a month to prepare. He makes some throws look so easy and is pinpoint with them.

I don't know much about the Panthers ownership/front office but man that job has to be desirable just because of him. Look at the QB's that will be in that division the next 3-5 years and beyond though, wow.

They're my favorite AFC team too but that's because of Maurice Jones-Drew and Marcedes Lewis.

So it sounds like the Tom Cable situation won't be solved in the next couple days. Cable is supposedly leaving for a week so any meeting with Davis won't be until next week. The deadline to pick up Cable's two-year option is Jan. 17.

Also, it sounds like the players really support Cable so we'll see how much that factors in.

I am still worried that Luck won't declare.

Heck, even when he does I will still live with the tiny bit of fear that we will somehow screw this up. Anything's possible after the train wreck I just witnessed the last 4 months.
