Well this is [expletive] great. I can't remember the last deal that put a big smile on my face and forced me to give a fist pump. I was convinced we were going to overpay for him.

You're the man Kerry.

If that is the total, I actually feel a little bad for Kerry. He should have at least received a 3 million contract in light of the Bobby Jenks signing with the Red Sox..

I don't. He probably shouldn't get anymore than $500,000 for pitching services, and $1m for being a fan favorite.

Interesting view of market forces and net worth you have there.

Do you even know what any of those words mean? You feel sorry for the guy and I'm the one with an "interesting view"?

considering the recent trend of contracts to middle relievers that make Grabows look good, this is a hell of a deal. The only sad thing is that he'll be making less than Grabow and maybe even Koyie Hill.

Grabow's only getting triple the amount that Wood's getting...

This is awesome news. Not only do we get Kerry back, but at that price? I don't know who could be upset about that.

There's a least one fan who thinks that Hendry paid Kerry a fan favorite premium of a million dollars and that his true market value is actually $500,000. I guess no matter what Hendry does, he's overpaying...

That's a freaking GREAT signing. He is worth $3 just for the affect he is going to have in the clubhouse.

I'd offer way more than $3.00 to a guy who can smash clubhouse boom boxes as well as Kerry Wood.

Maybe $3 mil?

Wow! I was resigned to the fact that Hendry was going to overpay to sign him. Absolutely love the the fact that Woody gave the team a discount. If Guzman's healthy to start the year, we could be looking at a very good bullpen.
Posted
Wow. Didn't expect that type of hometown discount.

FWIW, the Suntimes is reporting that it is 1 year at 5 mil not 1.5.

:-s

Huh, Wittenmeyer, who works for the Sun-Times, is saying $1.5.

I'm reading the suntimes and it's 1.5. Care to post a link?

OMG..Dexter must pay a visit to Hendry's office right now. Jeez..how can Ricketts be blind to what is going on? Oh that's right..installing new flush toilets in the right field bleachers is more important than the product on the field. When do we sign Chad Fox again? I see Kaplan has his pants down already.

This is yet another reason we don't win anything. Hendry is clueless.

this is my favorite "Overreaction Before Even Knowing What The Contract Would Be" in this thread.

The negotiations went like this:

Wood: "Jim, you know alot of teams are interested in me."

Hendry: "$10 million and that's my final offer."

Wood: "Sarah's from Chicago and really wants to move back."

Hendry: "OK..$15 million for two years."

Wood: "I'm going to get an oil change later."

Hendry: "Jeez Kerry, you are one tough negotiator..I'll put a no-trade clause in."

Wood: "I may let my beard grow back."

Hendry: "I'll let Mr. Ricketts know you want a piece of ownership."

Wood: "I'm going to put weight on again."

Hendry: "I'll make the announcement tomorrow."

This joke never stops being funny. Bravo my friend, bravo. Just amazing.

lol. I am not sure why people are ripping on this post. It does look odd considering what he signed for but I've often thought that is how Hendry does his negotiating with relievers. Funny stuff

Yeah, I chuckled when I read it.
