What does the talent level look like if he returns? If he is a late 1st early 2nd this year, it may be a great idea to return and boost himself into the top of the 1st.

Exact same team, the only graduating player on offense is the center. Great for continuity, but unless someone who didn't play much breaks through, there still isn't a ton of explosiveness.

I don't think Gabbert can really improve his stock too much by staying. I've said it before, but scouts didn't even look at tape on Daniel because the Mizzou offense is so different than what NFL coaches are looking for. What he can do, is put himself in a better draft class, and that's dependent on what all the other underclassmen decide to do and what the CBA situation looks like. But I don't think he can really play himself up or down next year in the eyes of the NFL, unless he got hurt of course.

Speaking of Mizzou losing their C. I like Tim Barnes a lot. I think he's a guy the Bears could draft in the 3rd or 4th round and be an eventual starter for them.

I'm not sure that's the only reason the NFL didn't waste much time with Chase Daniel.

Yeah I'm hoping they take a shot at him and give him a couple years behind Kreutz to learn. He's very solid.

Chase Daniel is in the NFL. Isn't he the Saints #2?

Yeah, he was undrafted free agent signed by Redskins, then cut and signed by New Orleans.

He was ignored by teams in the draft not just based on Missouri's offense. Plenty of non-traditional NFL offenses produce QBs that teams look at, and draft, every year.

I hope they get rid of Kreutz and let Barnes compete right away with Eddie Williams and/or Garza who moves to C.

As for the broader issue of a student escaping penalties based on their lack of knowledge, there also have been reports in the media that the recent ruling related to Cam Newton's eligibility will encourage parents or third-parties to solicit benefits or money during the recruiting process while keeping the student in the dark as to their activities.

Again, this strays from the truth.

While efforts are being championed by NCAA President Mark Emmert to further clarify and strengthen recruiting and amateurism rules when benefits or money are solicited (but not received), current NCAA rules would be violated and students declared ineligible should a parent or third party receive benefits or money, regardless of the student's knowledge.

Put simply, had Cam Newton's father or a third party actually received money or benefits for his recruitment, Cam Newton would have been declared ineligible regardless of his lack of knowledge.

Completely ignores the point that a parent can still ask for money. If they get it, they have the money and then just hope for no suspension. If they don't get it, no harm no foul. You have to make asking for the money an offense.

Just read that Robert Griffin graduated from Baylor this past semester with a degree in Poli Sci, and starts grad school next semester. Not bad for a 20 year old with 2 more years of eligibility left. Still curious to if he can make it in the NFL as a QB.

agree...per the NCAA's statement, the bylaws will likely be modified in the near future.

Other than the inability to actually punch it in when they get close, there isn't much Illinois is doing wrong so far.
