For the rest of my life, I don't think there will be a time I turn on a cubs radio broadcast and dont miss him. I don't know what else to say but that.

He signed my hat. At Wrigley.

He was on his golf cart, headed up to the booth, and probably should have just kept going. But he had the driver stop and signed just a couple of hats for us. It wasn't even a big crowd of people or anything.

I know it's just one stupid fan's thing, but I'll never forget that. RIP Ronnie. You will be missed greatly.

Very sad. My heart goes out to the Santo family.

And with Santo dying before being inducted into the hall of fame, I will NEVER set foot inside the baseball HOF. That place is dead to me.

What a great loss. I'm just sorry that Ron, like many incredible Cubs fans, never got to see them go to the World Series and realize that dream, too.

I wasn't gonna go anyway.

If they ever corrected their mistake and allowed Santo his place inside those walls, I could have found it in my heart to forgive the many years of failure on their part. Not now.

Saw this when I woke up this AM. I was sad when Harry died, but Ronny's passing has shaken me up a bit. The Veteran's Committee should be ashamed of themselves, as well as the original voters who failed to get him into the Hall.

I don't think they should be ashamed of themselves. If they didn't think he should be in the hall then maybe they are wrong. But they shouldn't be affected by how much the guy wanted to be in the hall or his health.

I would encourage everybody to make a donation to JDRF today in honor of Ron.

I was actually thinking about that earlier. It seems right.

This man was the Cubs...more than any other player, fan, owner, etc. The only person who can compare is Ernie. Don't you go pulling a Norm/Red on me God.

Not a stupid fan thing at all. I will never forget seeing him at a hotel. I started to approach him for an autograph then saw he had coffee in one hand and a paper in the other so I stopped and started to turn around. He called me back and asked if I was wanting an autograph. I said yes, but...and he said no, come over here and hold my coffee (I still talk about holding Ron Santo's coffee :D ). He said he always had time for a Cub's fan. Will never forget that moment.

There's a lot of people in this thread that are pretty emotionally affected by Ronnie's passing. I'm not gonna tell anyone what to say, or how to feel, but maybe, just in this thread, we can try to keep the debate to a minimum, and let this be a thread for vent grief and anger.
